Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
The Purchasing and Inventory Manager manages all activities of personnel engaged in purchasing and distributing materials, equipment and supplies to the plant and field by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage process of indirect and direct material requirements through requisition process
Evaluate purchased materials vs job bills of materials and reports discrepancies to stake holders for corrections
Local site Champion for Corporate Sourcing Projects and Initiative implementations
Participate in development of standards around purchasing systems and procedures
Participate in projects with the Category managers to implement strategies around suppliers, processes, tools and procedures
Create and issue purchase orders as needed
Continuously evaluate stocking level requirements based on job backlog/upcoming material Forecasting demands
Work with Category Manager to implement pre-orders as appropriate to best manage cost and lead-time issues based on Forecasted demands
Review purchasing activity for conformance to company policies
Review and manage material and purchasing data in View Point for accuracy
Escalate material substitution requirements to engineering for approval when a requisitioned material has supply issues impacting schedule
Assist Inventory Analyst with cycle counts as needed to support Corporate Accounting schedules
Manage/Participate in driving corrective action on inventory discrepancies to eliminate recurrence
Propose opportunities for utilization of surplus materials or disposal if needed
Review production schedules and insure that materials are available when needed
Mentor team on process, procedures, tool use, product and culture for team member future growth
Recruit, train and provide performance appraisals, on-going training and development plans for direct reports
Participate with Category Manager on supplier business review meetings
Assist with invoice approval and problem resolution
Oversee and support receiving process to follow company policy compliance
SCOPE OF AUTHORITY
This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit
Manages employees in the purchasing/warehouse/material handling departments
Peer to the Materials Manager
CHARACTERISTICS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of purchase order process, management and compliance
Able to prioritize projects
Ability to effectively work on multiple tasks simultaneously
1-3 years of Enterprise Requirement Planning systems experience
Sound understanding of inventory cycle count processes
Sound understanding on material issuing process for accurate job cost
Sound understanding of bill of material process
Sound understanding of material conveyance processes such as Vendor Managed Inventory, Kanbans and two bin replenishment processes
Able to listen, evaluate and execute projects and processes
Able to produce and or review reports for action
Must lead by example
EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY
Bachelors degree and/or 2-5 years closely related experience in increasing responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong analysis (math) skills
Able to provide presentations as needed for project updates, training or other activities
WORK ENVIRONMENT / SCHEDULE
Monday – Friday
8 am – 5 pm
Schedule flexibility may be needed to meet deadlines
Typically splits time between an office environment and warehouse

PPE only required with working at the plant.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time, standing, and walking. Position requires working in a warehouse environment in hot/cold, windy, wet and dusty situations.
