POSITION: Sr. Facility Maintenance Specialist

SALARY: $23.08 to $29.40, per hour, DOE

REPORTS TO: FMS Maintenance Manager

LOCATION:  Public WorksNespelem, WA 

 

Basic Functions: This is a Non-Exempt position. The incumbent will provide service to Tribal building and low-income elders and handicapped clients and is responsible for performing a variety of journeyman skill trades work in building, mechanical, basic electrical, plumbing, construction, repair and maintenance of reservation buildings, homes, and equipment. This is the second level in a skilled facilities maintenance worker series and requiring advanced and technical facilities maintenance skills performed without direct supervision. The position requires proficient journey-man level skills in three or more facilities maintenance trades with five years or more of experience. Provides direction and training in techniques and procedures to less experienced workers and general direction of other maintenance personnel on specific projects. This position also requires advanced organizational skills and the ability to manage several assignments simultaneously.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: 

  • Typically requires an Associate of Arts degree
  • Requires two years’ work experience in one of the following areas: carpentry, electrical/mechanical repair, plumbing, or similar trade field.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance.
  • Requires ability to obtain a Forklift Operator’s license and a Safety/First aid card within 90 days of hire.
  • Requires the ability to be willing to improve journeyman skill knowledge by attending training classes and independent study to keep up current trade knowledge.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires the knowledge and understanding of material estimating and of Uniform Building Code requirements.
  • Requires the knowledge and understanding of basic maintenance, repair and troubleshooting techniques for single phase circuits.
  • Requires the knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with building maintenance and repair.
  • Requires the skill in the use of equipment and vehicles associated with building maintenance and repair.
  • Requires the skills in being a team player and able to work with the general public, other tribal programs, co-workers and vendors.
  • Requires the ability to construct, repair, renovated floors, roofs, partitions, doors, windows, furniture, construct kitchen and bathroom cabinets, install vinyl and carpet floor coverings.
  • Requires the ability to read and interpret blue prints, determines proper work methods and procedures, and applies trade knowledge.
  • Requires the ability to research, plan, estimate and inspect projects before, during and after for uniformity with project goas, plans, specifications, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions, to work independently, to communicate effectively, and to write clearly and concisely.
  • Requires the ability to work under deadlines and with disgruntled homeowners.
  • Requires ability to be a team player and able to work with the general public, other tribal programs, co-workers and vendors.

Physical Abilities:

  • Requires the ability to maintain cardio-pulmonary fitness to engage in moderate physical activity.
  • Requires ambulatory ability to move to different work locations and to bend, stoop, climb, and reach to perform inspections.
  • Requires arm, hand, finger dexterity to demonstrate use or operate common tools used in public works construction and maintenance, operate rolling stock, and use a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
  • May require the ability to lift from floor, waist, or overhead, objects up to 100 pounds on an infrequent basis.
  • Requires the ability to function with temperature variations.
  • Requires visual acuity to observe work sites, read written materials, blueprints, plans and schematics.
  • Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone, including the ability to project voice in noisy work settings.
  • Requires ability to squat, bend, kneel, crawl, push and pull.
  • Requires ability to work weekends and holidays and a flexible schedule when required.
  • Requires ability to work and drive in adverse weather conditions.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors where minimal significant health and safety considerations exist from exposure to fumes, dust and temperature variations, and dangerous equipment.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

 TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

 If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
