Provisional Lighting Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

The Lighting Maintenance Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and replacement of faulty lamps and bulbs throughout district facilities. The primary function of this position is to ensure lighting systems in commercial school buildings are operating properly and efficiently. This individual must be organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently while coordinating with on-site custodial staff to identify lighting needs and develop efficient replacement plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect and replace faulty lamps and bulbs throughout district facilities.
  • Coordinate with on-site custodians and school personnel to identify lighting issues and prioritize replacement needs.
  • Develop and maintain organized plans and schedules for servicing assigned school sites.
  • Perform preventative maintenance related to lighting systems and fixtures.
  • Safely use ladders, lifts, hand tools, and other equipment required to complete work assignments.
  • Maintain inventory of lamps, bulbs, and related materials and notify supervisors of inventory needs.
  • Follow all district safety procedures and applicable electrical safety practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work and service requests.
  • Respond to lighting-related work orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in maintenance, lighting replacement, facilities work, or related field preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to plan and prioritize daily work activities.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and equipment operation.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with custodians, staff, and supervisors.
  • Ability to safely work around electrical systems and equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, squat, reach, and twist.
  • Ability to perform repetitive overhead work for extended periods.
  • Ability to regularly climb ladders and work at moderate heights.
  • Ability to safely use tools and equipment associated with maintenance duties.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.

Work Environment

  • Work performed primarily in commercial school buildings and district facilities.
  • Exposure to dust, heat, noise, and changing environmental conditions.
  • Frequent use of ladders and elevated work areas.
  • Exposure to electrical equipment and moving mechanical parts.

Position Status

  • This is a provisional position.
  • Scheduled work hours will be up to 30 hours per week and will not exceed 30 hours in any work week.
  • Work schedules may vary based on district needs, workload, and assigned projects.
