Job Description

Job Summary

As a member of the Act 93 Middle Management group, this position oversees the staff and operation of the building cafeteria. Assists in the preparation and serving of students and adult meals according to the school meal program guidelines, and in the proper cleaning and sanitizing of the kitchen facilities. Trains cafeteria personnel in culinary techniques, sanitation, equipment usage, school lunch requirements and cafeteria procedures.

Essential Job Responsibilities

1. Food Preparation

a. Collaborate with the Child Nutrition Services Director in creating new recipes, menu choices, and ala carte items to meet the current nutrition standards and meal pattern requirements.

b. Cook all necessary food items, ensuring meals are nutritional, appealing, and maintained at appropriate temperatures.

c. Responsible for preparation and delivery of quality food items from the designated order guide.

d. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the preparation of and serving food.

e. Ability to operate an efficient, high quality, and cost effective food service operation.

f. Inspect menu items served for maximum customer satisfaction.

g. Maintain accurate production records on a daily basis.
 

2. Inventory

a. Order food, produce, ice cream, dairy, bread, ala carte items, and general supplies using order guides provided to maintain adequate inventories of necessary ingredients and supplies.

b. Record and maintain food and supply inventory records.

c. Submit month end reports and invoices to the Child Nutrition Services Office.

d. Receive food orders, validate invoices, ensure proper storage.



3. Supervision of Child Nutrition Services (CNS) Personnel 

 a. Supervise, train and evaluate the performance of CNS employees.

 b. Establish work assignments and schedules.

c. Development of job duties for individual employees. 

d. Communicate written and oral instructions when necessary to enable each person to clearly understand her/his job responsibilities.

e. Provide leadership in training employees and ongoing required training.

f. Assist the Director of Child Nutrition in the evaluations of cafeteria personnel regarding work performance and attitude.

 

4. Safety Awareness - Observe and report maintenance items or equipment which is in need of repair to the Director of Child Nutrition Services.

5. Performs catering responsibilities as requested. Duties may include: 

a. Develop a catering menu.

b. Prepare and organize equipment, food, service preparations, and pricing for catering function/event. 

c. Maintain the calendar of special functions.

d. Monitor the availability of catering stock and supplies and order replenishment.

e. Track catering expenses and maintain accurate records for billing.

f. Coordinate each function with contact person and appropriate building regarding dates, times, menu, set up, supplies (general/food), etc.

g. Prepare, set up and clean up catering events in the assigned building.


6. Professional Standards- Maintain at least minimum annual training hours according to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010

7. Performs other duties as assigned under the direction of the Director of Child Nutrition Services, CFOO, and/or Superintendent of Schools.

Qualifications

  • ServSafe certification required.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience working with or supervising other employees preferred.
  • Associate Degree or vocational culinary training preferred.
  • Two year college degree or technical school certification preferred
  • Other education/experience as accepted by the school board and administration
