Pay: $34.37/hr. ($29.28/hr. base rate + $5.09 H&W)

*Pay rates listed reflect the full rate for this position, including both the base pay and health and welfare benefits in accordance with applicable requirements. Pay is based on numerous factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS


Position Overview: In this role, you will oversee resident recreation and wellness activities within the detention facility while ensuring recreational programs, organized activities, and fitness operations are conducted safely and in compliance with government detention standards and facility policies. You will coordinate schedules, supervise recreation areas, monitor resident participation, and support programs designed to promote physical activity, structured engagement, and orderly operations within the facility. This position requires strong organizational skills, professionalism, communication abilities, and the ability to manage recreation operations within a secure detention environment while maintaining safety and operational control.


Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily recreation schedules, organized activities, fitness programs, and resident wellness initiatives in accordance with facility operational procedures and resident management requirements.
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor recreation areas including gyms, recreation yards, activity rooms, and fitness spaces to ensure safe and orderly operations.
  • Monitor resident participation and behavior during recreational activities while enforcing facility rules, safety procedures, and operational standards.
  • Inspect recreation equipment, fitness supplies, outdoor areas, and operational spaces for safety hazards, damage, or maintenance concerns and report deficiencies to supervisory personnel.
  • Maintain accountability of recreation equipment, sports supplies, fitness materials, and operational inventory used during resident activities.
  • Coordinate with detention personnel, healthcare staff, behavioral health providers, and facility leadership regarding resident recreation schedules, medical restrictions, and operational concerns.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, disturbances, injuries, or operational incidents occurring during recreation activities while following approved facility procedures.
  • Maintain accurate recreation schedules, resident participation records, incident documentation, inventory logs, and operational reports related to recreation services.
  • Support special events, structured wellness programs, and facility-approved educational or recreational activities designed to support resident morale and orderly operations.
  • Ensure recreation operations comply with government detention standards, safety requirements, sanitation procedures, and facility policies at all times.
  • Support audits, inspections, compliance reviews, and operational assessments related to recreation services and resident wellness programs.
  • Maintain professionalism, strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills while supporting safe and efficient recreation operations within the detention facility.


Qualifications:

  • Must possess a minimum of one (1) year as a Recreation Coordinator or similar role. Experience may be substituted with a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, Kinesiology, or closely related Behavioral/Social Sciences field.
  • Must possess experience within a detention center, correctional facility, prison, or similar environment.
  • Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
  • If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
  • Must consent to fingerprinting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.


Work Environment:

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.


Physical Requirements:

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
