GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
Investigates complaints and/or inquiries regarding business activities regulated by the Department. Work requires contact with consumers, industry executives, attorneys, governmental officials, and private entities. Work may require up to 10% travel. Employees at this level perform work independently with limited supervision and with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Any unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Reviews and evaluates consumer complaints to determine if the consumer is eligible for relief under applicable state law
Conducts investigations and/or inspections of consumer’s motor vehicle documents, observations, and findings
Evaluates complaints filed to determine applicability of regulatory statutes
Identifies, gathers, and examines complex records necessary to complete investigations
Prepares comprehensive investigative or inspection reports
Maintains investigation(s) files and reports
Conducts informal mediations between parties to settle disputes
Coordinates with regulated businesses and consumers regarding complaints
Answers inquiries and provides guidance to regulated businesses
Conducts research of state and federal statutes, regulations and other issues affecting area of jurisdiction
Maintains case files
May be required to make public presentations to outside agencies
May provide expert testimony in administrative hearings
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
Graduation from high school or equivalent
- College education or technical training in law enforcement, investigations or a related field may be substituted for experience on a year-per-year basis.
Experience
Seven years progressively responsible experience in investigative work or in the automotive industry in a technical or service field.
Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within ninety (90) days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
Job offers and continuation of employment is contingent upon:
- Proof of education and experience listed on the application

- Satisfactory results from a pre-employment criminal history background check and driver’s record check
- Compliance with Selective Service registration for males ages 18-25
- Required to attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
MILITARY
