Job Duties:

The Associate Director provides leadership and direction for the Office for Culture and Student Development (OCSD) through supervision of staff and programs, budget management, and strategic planning. The position leads efforts to foster student belonging, engagement, retention, and success by cultivating campus and community partnerships, enhancing awareness of OCSD resources and initiatives, and supporting transformative learning experiences for students.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Serves as a unit liaison, collaborating with internal and external stakeholder groups to foster cross-unit partnership efforts regarding student affairs initiatives
  • Manages and oversees the budget
  • Assists in the development of unit-focused strategic planning initiatives and unit objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with the strategic plan

The Office for Culture and Student Development (OCSD), a unit of the Office of the Dean of Students, promotes student success by cultivating inclusive, welcoming, and academically integrated experiences. Through our four resource centers—the Multicultural Resource Center, Native American Center, Queer Resource Center, and Non-Traditional Student Center—and events, OCSD supports students’ transition to UWSP, sense of belonging, and persistence. Compensation:

The Associate Director is a full-time, salaried, exempt, annual (12-month), academic staff position.

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting salary within a range of $70,000-$75,000 annually,  commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in student affairs/student personnel, social work, education, counseling, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with, coaching, mentoring, or leading staff and teams, including experience providing performance feedback and supporting individual development.
  • Experience advising and/or mentoring students, with a demonstrated commitment to fostering student belonging, engagement, persistence, and success.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and facilitating programs and workshops
  • Demonstrated experience or evidence of effective interpersonal communication skills that demonstrate the ability to work with and build rapport with students, institutional partners, and other stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with identifying priorities, strategic goals, and action plans to enhance student progress
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, implementing, and evaluating programs
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and/or solve complex problems
  • Demonstrated computer skills in working with student record keeping databases (i.e., Peoplesoft, Navigate or similar system), data analysis skills, and MS Office programs.
