
Trust & Safety and Technology Communications Manager
Job Description
About the Team This role sits within our Global Trust & Safety and Technology Communications team and partners closely with cross-functional Engineering, Product, Legal, and Public Policy teams, as well as communications colleagues across regions. It focuses on shaping and communicating TikTok’s approach to responsible innovation and product development—building trust and credibility in our technologies among both technical and broader audiences.
We’re looking for an experienced communications professional to lead technical storytelling within the team. In this role, you will develop narratives and strategies that highlight our tech stack, open-source contributions, R&D work, and product innovations—while humanizing the teams behind them and ensuring our voice resonates authentically within developer and expert communities.
Responsibilities
- Develop clear, credible messaging around our R&D, open-source initiatives, engineering work, and product innovations
- Proactively identify technical storytelling opportunities and translate them into high-quality blog posts and other owned content
- Pitch and land stories across a mix of traditional and non-traditional channels, including developer-focused media, blogs, and online communities
- Support technical speaking engagements, events, and external moments that showcase our expertise and innovation
- Review academic research outputs for both reputational risks and storytelling opportunities
- Partner closely with product, engineering, and cross-functional communications teams (e.g., privacy, security) to provide strategic counsel on communicating responsible technology development
Minimum Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in a technical, communications, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in tech communications, with a strong track record of writing and storytelling
- Fluency in technical and engineering concepts, with the ability to engage credibly with technical audiences
- Familiarity with both traditional tech media and non-traditional channels (e.g., technical blogs, GitHub, Reddit, developer forums)
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to independently drive workstreams
- Proactive, adaptable, and results-oriented working style
- Passion for technical storytelling and translating complex ideas into compelling narratives
Preferred Qualifications
- Established relationships across both traditional tech media and non-traditional developer communities
- Experience operating in global, cross-functional environments
- Experience supporting technical speakers and presentations at industry conferences
- Background working with or within a PR/communications agency
- Analytical mindset with sound judgment, particularly in evaluating technical content and potential risks
- Comfort working in fast-paced, evolving environments with shifting priorities
