SEASONAL - Trackchair Program Administrator (PT Administrative Support)

About this job: In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing the Trackchair program which provides access to our local parks and open spaces for individuals with mobility challenges.  This position will include leading Trackchair programs, reservation management, volunteer supervision, and other associated administrative duties. In conjunction with parks staff, you will also be responsible for assessing trail accessibility and working to upgrade trails to accommodate Trackchairs. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to help grow this amazing program.

Job type: Seasonal
Work schedule: Normal work hours will vary based on department needs. At least one weekend day will be required, and work hours will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. Position scheduled for 32-40 hours per week, not to exceed 1,500 hours annually. Approximate dates of employment will be April - November.

This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).


As a Trackchair Program Administrator, you will:
  • Lead and conduct hikes using Trackchairs
  • Transport, load, and unload equipment as well as operate a pickup truck with a trailer
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and training
  • Overseeing volunteers during scheduled hikes
  • Assist with marketing and social media regarding the program
  • Coordinate and assist with the maintenance of chairs
  • Correspondence with participants including confirmations, cancellations. and concerns
  • Administrative functions such as tracking statistics and routine documentation
  • Developing content for the program website and brochures

Additional Duties as Assigned

  • Lead education and outreach programs
  • Lead informal program tables at trailheads
  • Occasional maintenance tasks mowing, trimming, trail maintenance

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • Ability to communicate well with a diverse population of participants
  • A safety-oriented mindset and ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Must be comfortable being outdoors for up to six hours in a variety of conditions including hot, cold, windy, and/or wet weather.
  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability work independently, problem-solve, and be a self-starter
  • Prior experience working with individuals with a variety of disabilities
  • Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Experience in therapeutic, adaptive or outdoor recreation
  • Experience leading guided hikes or programs
  • Have a background in or basic understanding of trail design principles

Work is performed outdoors with possible exposure to extreme weather conditions, dust, and pollen.
 
This position requires lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and 75 pounds on occasionally; standing, sitting, stooping, climbing, and bending for extended periods; and hiking up to five miles.
