Job Description
Title: English Language Arts Teacher
JOB GOAL:
To provide high-quality English Language Arts instruction that develops students' reading, writing, speaking, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills while preparing students for high school-level coursework and academic success.
QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED):
- Valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for middle school English/Language Arts
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Knowledge of Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts
- Ability to use student achievement data to guide instruction
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
- Demonstrated commitment to meeting the needs of diverse learners
- Familiarity with instructional technology and digital learning platforms
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and deliver engaging English Language Arts instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and district curriculum
- Develop students' skills in reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and communication
- Encourage critical thinking through the study of literature, informational text, and written expression
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to support student learning and engagement
- Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction to improve student outcomes
- Differentiate instruction to meet individual learning needs and abilities
- Use student performance data to guide instructional decisions and interventions
- Maintain accurate and timely student records, grades, and documentation
- Establish and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment conducive to learning
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns
- Collaborate with teachers, instructional staff, and administration to support student achievement and school goals
- Participate in professional development and school improvement activities
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of the position
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or administration
CLASSIFICATION:
This position is classified as a certified teaching position and is subject to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Board of School Trustees.
