TITLE: Facilities Maintenance Technician

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Experience in general maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or related trades.
  3. Working knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures, and repair techniques.
  4. Proficiency with hand and power tools and maintenance equipment.
  5. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  6. Valid driver's license required.

ABILITY TO:

  • Troubleshoot issues and complete repairs independently.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with staff and the public.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Safely operate equipment such as lifts, mowers, snow removal equipment, and other maintenance tools.

CLASSIFICATION:
This position is classified as a full-time 260-day position and is subject to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Board of School Trustees. Pay is hourly based on the maintenance worker schedule.

JOB GOAL:
Keep up with the general upkeep, repair, and safety of school buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

REPORTS TO: Director of Buildings and Grounds

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on district buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  2. Complete general repairs, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and related maintenance work.
  3. Inspect facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  4. Respond to work orders and maintenance requests in a timely manner.
  5. Assist with maintaining outdoor areas including mowing, trimming, and snow and ice removal.
  6. Safely operate and maintain tools, equipment, and district vehicles.
  7. Maintain inventory of parts, materials, and supplies needed for maintenance work.
  8. Assist with moving furniture, event setup, and other operational needs as required.
  9. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and work performed.
  10. Follow all safety procedures and comply with applicable health and safety regulations.
  11. Respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed, including after-hours when required.
  12. Work cooperatively with administration, custodial staff, and other employees to maintain facilities.
  13. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Work schedule is 40 hours per week, with on-call duties for weekend emergencies on a rotating basis.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.

  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and operate lifts and similar equipment.
  • Standing, walking, bending, and working for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and chemicals.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on support staff evaluation.

ATTENDANCE:   Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
