Job Description
TITLE: Intermediate School Teacher � Social Studies
JOB GOAL:
To deliver high-quality social studies instruction that develops students' understanding of history, geography, civics, economics, and critical thinking skills while supporting overall academic growth.
QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED):
- Valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for grade level/content area
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Knowledge of Indiana Academic Standards for ELA and literacy best practices
- Ability to use student data to inform instruction
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated commitment to meeting the needs of all learners
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and delivers social studies instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and district curriculum
- Develop students' understanding of history, geography, civics, economics, and current events as they relate to the Indiana standards
- Promote critical thinking, inquiry, research, and discussion skills through engaging instructional practices
- Assess student progress and adjust instruction to improve outcomes
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Use student data to guide instructional decisions and support growth
- Collaborate with colleagues to support student achievement and align instructional practices
- Communicate regularly with students and parents/guardians regarding progress
- Maintain accurate and timely records in accordance with district and state requirements
- Integrate instructional technology to enhance literacy learning
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school improvement initiatives
- Supervise students and ensure safety in all assigned settings
- Support a positive school culture and team environment
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal
