Job Description

The SACC-Group Leader, under the supervision of the Site Coordinator and Afterschool Director, implements classroom curriculum, provides homework assistance, communicates information to families and maintains a safe, healthy, engaging and nurturing Afterschool environment.   

Reports to:  Director-SACC   

CORE  EXPECTATIONS:  

  • PROGRAM MANAGEMENT 

Planning and execution of programs to meet the needs of the children and families. Responsible for maintaining compliance in all related areas including the Department of Early Education & Care (EEC) licensing regulations, assist Site Coordinator in promoting YUSA Healthy Eating Physical Activity (HEPA) standards. Provide reasonable accommodations to allow children with disabilities to participate in activities whenever possible and to meet each child’s individual needs according to EEC and ADA.    

  • STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT 

Directly supervises program participants and volunteers in accordance with the organization's policies, EEC regulations, applicable laws and QRIS Standards.  Plans, assigns, and directs staff and volunteer work.  Monitor and communicate with supervisor all staff related EEC and SOUTH SHORE YMCA requirements.    

  • MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT 

Builds relationships with and among families and members, responds to inquiries and solves problems.  Creates a supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new families, and connects families to the YMCA’s cause.    

  • FACILITY MANAGEMENT 

Works with Afterschool Director and Site Coordinator to ensure that program facilities and equipment are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained.  

  • VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT 

Responsible for engaging volunteers.  

  • COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT 

Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events in order to strengthen support and build community.

To qualify as a Group Leader in an EEC-licensed school-age program in Massachusetts, candidates must be at least 18 years old, hold a high school diploma (or equivalent), and meet one of the following combinations of education and experience:

  • With a Degree: Bachelor's or Associate's degree + 3 months of experience working with school-age children.
  • With a High School Diploma: High school diploma/equivalent + 6 months of experience working with school-age children.
