The Role

The Internal Communications Assistant is an important part of the Communications team within the law firm’s Marketing and Business Development department. This individual works closely with the EMEAPAC Internal Communications Manager to design and produce engaging content across a variety of internal communications channels, including the firm’s intranet (Athena).

This role, based in our innovative and fast-growing Newcastle office, reports into the Communications Manager, and will work alongside the PR team, the Social Media team and the global / regional comms team.

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with members of the Marketing and Business Development function, as well as colleagues across Business Services, this role covers a broad range of internal communications activity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop internal communications visual assets, including support for presentations (PowerPoint), emails (branded templates), newsletters, plasma screens, Intranet (Athena) carousel imagery, and ad hoc campaign materials

  • Manage incoming internal communications requests via the portal, ensuring timely triage and prioritisation. Flag complex, high-impact or campaign-related requests for escalation.

  • Act as a key EMEAPAC contact for the Intranet (Athena), including the daily management of Intranet story posting, page updates and creation

  • Use approved AI tools to support first-draft content creation, editing, summarising and repurposing communications for different internal channels, applying appropriate human review, judgement and quality control

  • Explore AI-enabled tools and features that can help improve the efficiency, accessibility and impact of internal communications, including content planning, audience tailoring and basic performance insight

  • Support the Internal Communications team on EMEAPAC news, including identifying and gathering story leads, stakeholder follow-up, and publishing across channels. This includes supporting on ad hoc campaigns as they arise

  • Act as a quality control point for communications, ensuring consistency with branding, tone of voice and strategic messaging, and compliance with brand and house style guidelines

Key Skills and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent level

  • Intranet / SharePoint knowledge

  • Design experience and / or an eye for good design. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or similar essential

  • Strong PowerPoint skills and proficient in all Microsoft Office applications

  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet required deadlines

  • Creative and strategic thinker with an innovative mind and a “can do” attitude

  • An interest in, and willingness to develop confidence using, generative AI tools to support communications tasks such as drafting, editing, summarising, ideation and content adaptation

  • Ability to apply critical thinking when using AI-generated outputs, including checking accuracy, tone, inclusivity, confidentiality and alignment with brand, house style and strategic messaging

  • Basic understanding of responsible AI use in a professional environment, including data protection, confidentiality and the importance of human oversight

  • Collaborative and enjoys working as part of a high-performing and international team

  • Appreciation and respect of the cultural and linguistic diversity of a large global organisation to ensure internal communications strategies are inclusive
