Job Description

We are looking for a Technical SME to join our energetic team at the Oyu Tolgoi mine in Mongolia. The site is situated in South Gobi of Mongolia.

Work roster: 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off

Shift Length: 12 hours (day and night shift)
Compensation: We offer a competitive salary.
Travel:  Flights provided from point of hire to job site

Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of pre-employment medical and substance abuse test.

Accommodations: In modern site accommodation provided by the Customer.

Main objectives:

The SME provides technical leadership and expertise within the Inspection and Technical Support Team. The role ensures high-quality equipment inspections, supports failure diagnostics and root cause analysis, and improves equipment reliability through technical guidance, mentoring, and continuous improvement of maintenance practices and procedures.

The SME acts as a key technical link between inspectors, maintenance teams, reliability, and Normet, ensuring consistent application of standards, safe work practices, and effective problem resolution in the field.

Main duties:

  • Provide technical support for complex equipment failures and troubleshooting

  • Guide and mentor inspectors and technicians in daily work and diagnostics

  • Ensure inspection and PM quality standards are met

  • Conduct root cause analysis and support failure investigations

  • Identify recurring issues and propose technical improvements

  • Support maintenance tactics, SWP updates, and reliability improvements

  • Collaborate with maintenance, reliability, Normet factory

  • Support training improvement through field feedback

  • Contribute to and lead assigned technical improvement projects

  • Ensure safe working practices and compliance with standards

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

Education

  • Degree in technical engineering

Work experience and skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance, inspection, and diagnostics

  • Experience in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems

  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and solve complex technical issues

  • Understanding of preventive maintenance and reliability principles

  • Familiarity with SAP or maintenance management systems

  • Good communication, mentoring, and teamwork skills

  • Strong safety awareness and compliance mindset

  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment

  • Willingness and ability to work long shifts (12 hours/day) and periods (4 weeks)

  • Ability to work in underground mining conditions

  • Ability to live and work in remote camp accommodation facilities
