Job Description

The Education Specialist will support candidates in the APPEL-SpEd program, through the development and implementation of professional learning plans (PLPs), mentor support structures, IHE courses and remediation options. The Education Specialist will analyze data to assist the USBE team in determining areas of support needed for APPEL-SpEd candidates, mentors and administrators in the implementation and demonstration of competencies toward a professional license in special education including the development of post program support to improve educator retention. Assist with drafting training materials, policies/procedures, desk manuals/standard operating procedures, etc. Support Local Education Agency (LEA) and school access to qualified school personnel to support students with disabilities by providing an alternative pathway to professional licensure in special education and preschool special education licensure Provide support for LEA employees providing special education services Support access to professional learning and training for novice SpEd educators Support and collaborate with other USBE teams regarding the APPEL-SpEd program and competencies Support and assist with the development of APPEL-SpEd courses and care to maintain accuracy and current expectations aligning with current federal and state SpEd Rules/Laws, procedures, and expectations in accordance with SpEd/general educator competencies Respond to LEAs and educators regarding SpEd related program questions and provide technical assistance to LEAs in supporting teachers on an Alternate Educator License (AEL) path through the Alternate Path to Professional Educator Licensure for Special Education (APPEL-SpEd) for both K-12+ and Preschool SpEd Assist in responding to general program inquiries for shared APPEL-SpEd inboxes Manage consultation Bookings processes where any interested individual can book a one-on-one consultation with an APPEL-SpEd education specialist to review personalized learning plans, pose questions, meet with their mentors, and other collaborative meetings Support the professional learning of APPEL-SpEd candidates in coordination with Institutes of Higher Education (IHE) partners Assist with the development and follow up of remediation plans for APPEL-SpEd candidates Coordinate with the team to develop and implement retention support for APPEL-SpEd candidates Provide ongoing support for APPEL-SpEd completers Collaborate with the APPEL SpEd team to provide additional administrative support for LEAs who employ and sponsor APPEL-SpEd candidates Develop and maintain a remediation resource hub with current information and changes Communicate with IHEs and resolve issues with enrollment, competencies, and courses Other activities/duties assigned
