Purpose of Job
The Senior IT Officer reports to the Chief Integrated Support Services (CISS) and supports the planning, coordination, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of Mission information and communications technology (ICT) systems and services in support of the AUSSOM mandate. The incumbent contributes to the management of Mission ICT infrastructure, systems administration, network operations, user support, information security, and technology coordination activities within the Mission area. The Officer supports ICT service delivery, operational continuity, system reliability, and technology support requirements within a complex and high-risk field mission environment.
Main Functions
• Supports the planning, coordination, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of Mission ICT systems, infrastructure, and technology services in support of the AUSSOM mandate and operational requirements.
• Contributes to the management of Mission ICT infrastructure, including networks, servers, communication systems, enterprise applications, and user support services within the Mission area.
• Supports ICT service delivery, systems administration, network operations, operational continuity, and technology support activities to ensure reliable Mission operations.
• Assists in coordinating ICT projects, system upgrades, technology initiatives, and infrastructure improvements in collaboration with Mission components and relevant AU ICT structures.
• Supports information security, cybersecurity, data protection, and ICT compliance activities in accordance with applicable AU policies, procedures, and operational requirements.
• Contributes to ICT troubleshooting, technical support, system maintenance, user assistance, and operational problem-solving activities relating to Mission ICT operations.
• Supports ICT reporting, infrastructure monitoring, technical coordination, and information management activities in support of Mission operational effectiveness.
Specific Responsibilities
• Supports the planning, coordination, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of Mission ICT systems, infrastructure, and operational technology services within the Mission area.
• Contributes to the management and administration of Mission ICT infrastructure, including networks, servers, communication systems, enterprise applications, databases, and user support services.
• Supports ICT service delivery, operational continuity, systems administration, network operations, and technology support activities to ensure reliable Mission ICT operations.
• Assists in coordinating ICT projects, infrastructure upgrades, system improvements, software deployments, and technology initiatives in collaboration with Mission components and relevant AU ICT structures.
• Supports cybersecurity, information security, data protection, access control, and ICT compliance activities in accordance with applicable AU policies, procedures, and operational requirements.
• Contributes to troubleshooting, technical support, system maintenance, operational problem-solving, and user assistance activities relating to Mission ICT systems and infrastructure.
• Supports monitoring and maintenance of Mission ICT infrastructure performance, system availability, network reliability, and operational functionality.
• Assists in preparing ICT reports, technical assessments, infrastructure updates, system documentation, and briefing materials relating to Mission ICT operations.
• Supports coordination and liaison activities with Mission components, contractors, AU ICT structures, service providers, and relevant stakeholders on ICT-related matters.
• Assists in supervising, guiding, and coordinating subordinate ICT personnel and field-level ICT support activities as required.
• Supports the maintenance of ICT records, technical documentation, inventory systems, user support logs, and information management tools relating to Mission ICT operations.
Performs any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience
• Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering, Systems Administration, Telecommunications, Software Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant professional experience, including at least three (3) years in ICT systems administration, network operations, infrastructure support, ICT service delivery, or field mission ICT environments.
Or
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering, Systems Administration, Telecommunications, Software Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience, including at least three (3) years in ICT systems administration, network operations, infrastructure support, ICT service delivery, or field mission ICT environments.
• Professional ICT certifications in networking, systems administration, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, IT service management, or related ICT disciplines are an added advantage.
• Experience in AU, UN, or other international field missions, particularly in conflict or post-conflict environments, is desirable.
• Experience in ICT infrastructure management, systems administration, network support, communication systems, and enterprise applications is desirable.
• Experience in cybersecurity, information security, ICT compliance, operational continuity, and data protection activities is desirable.
• Experience in ICT troubleshooting, user support, technical coordination, and operational ICT service delivery is desirable.
• Experience in the use of ICT management systems, infrastructure monitoring tools, databases, and standard Microsoft Office applications is desirable.
• Strong analytical, technical reporting, coordination, and problem-solving skills are required
Required Skills
• Strong ICT operational support, systems administration, network management, and infrastructure coordination skills within complex field mission environments.
• Ability to support the implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Mission ICT infrastructure, communication systems, enterprise applications, and operational technology services.
• Good understanding of ICT infrastructure management, network operations, cybersecurity principles, information security, operational continuity, and data protection requirements.
• Ability to coordinate ICT service delivery, technical support, infrastructure maintenance, and operational problem-solving activities in support of Mission operations.
• Strong analytical, technical reporting, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with Mission components, contractors, service providers, AU ICT structures, and relevant stakeholders on ICT-related matters.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to evolving operational and technology requirements within a fast-paced field mission environment.
• Proficiency in the use of ICT management systems, infrastructure monitoring tools, databases, enterprise applications, and standard Microsoft Office applications.

TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The Appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of one (1) year, of which the first three (3) months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract may be renewed for a similar period subject to funding availability, satisfactory performance and agreed deliverables.

REMUNERATION:
The salary attached to the position is an annual lump-sum of US$ 125,607.58 (P3 Step 5) inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 91,058.73 inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff of the African Union Commission.
