
GSRP Lead Teacher
Job Description
Responsible To: Director of Preschool Services; Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Superintendent
Supervises: Associate teachers, volunteers and children in the program.
Location: Ferry Elementary School or Maire Elementary School
CREDENTIALING REQUIREMENTS:
Lead Teachers must meet the GSRP qualifications upon hire. A Lead Teacher will be considered credentialed for the position with minimally any of the following:
- A valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement, Early Childhood General and Special Education birth � kindergarten (ZN) or Lower Elementary Education PK (ZO) endorsement; or
- A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching. The transcript will document a major, rather than a minor, in child development or early childhood education; or
A bachelor's degree in elementary teaching with a valid Preschool CDA.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and implements a developmentally appropriate program using the Creative Curriculum in an all inclusive classroom setting.
- Utilizes Early Childhood Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports
- Communicates regularly with administrative support including Director of Preschool Services and dedicated specialists assigned to the GSRP program.
- Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills.
- Maintains program equipment and supplies and maintains an up-to-date inventory list.
- Develops effective communication with the parents of children enrolled in the program.
- Provides a safe, nurturing, child-oriented environment and meets Environmental Health guidelines regarding cleanliness.
- Assists Director of Preschool Services in ensuring the site meets state licensing regulations, Great Start to Quality standards and GSRP guidelines.
- Completes all appropriate paperwork including but not limited to lesson plans, purchase order requisitions, attendance records and accident reports.
- Observes and assesses children's growth using formal and informal instruments and maintains a portfolio for each child.
- Conducts 2 conferences with parents throughout the year.
- Plans and conducts 2 home visits each year.
- Supervises classroom assistants and provides input for performance evaluation.
- Communicates and works closely with GSRP classroom consultant.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk over 60% of the work day in order to supervise children throughout daily activities, walk throughout the school, participate in Gym and Playground activities.
- Must have the physical stamina to care for energetic young children.
- Required to lift (7 -50 pounds), bend, sit on the floor, run and engage in other physical activities.
- Assist with toileting needs
Job qualifications:
- Comprehensive background check, health and safety training, signed child abuse form.
- CPR and First Aid Training (provided through the program)
- Must be able to adequately carry out all above mentioned job responsibilities.
- Be punctual and in attendance daily.
- Complete all mandatory professional development.
Working Conditions:
- Program hours are 8:00am-4:30pm
- Children in session 7 hours 10 minutes/day
- Monday-Friday
Salary : $23.96 - $27.84/ hourly, quarterly merit pay, paid holidays, paid vacation days, benefits package

Selection Procedure:
Position will remain open until filled. The successful candidate must meet the State standard for a clear criminal history and provide a comprehensive background check.
