The Field Service Engineer is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality field services that restore, sustain, and optimize customer operations. This role focuses on diagnosing and resolving issues related to Yokogawa control systems and products, executing preventive and corrective maintenance activities, performing system configuration changes and upgrades, and completing all required service documentation in accordance with Yokogawa standards, procedures, and safety requirements.

The position supports both on-site service delivery and remote escalation pathways, including close collaboration with the Technical Assistance Center (TAC), Headquarters, and other internal technical teams. Success in this role requires a strong service mindset, a customer-first approach, effective collaboration, and proactive problem-solving capabilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Execute automation and control system engineering tasks independently with minimal supervision, while collaborating closely with the Project Lead and Engineering Manager.

· Support system installation, application configuration, commissioning, field service, and troubleshooting activities for Yokogawa control systems and related automation products.

· Design, configure, implement, and test automation solutions, including I/O configuration, control logic, interlocks, sequences, and operator interface graphics.

· Support hardware installation, instrumentation wiring, loop checks, and creation/review of loop drawings; troubleshoot field and system-level issues.

· Troubleshoot complex control system, network, and system integration issues involving Yokogawa platforms, PLCs, computer systems, and industrial networks.

· Independently manage assigned project tasks and deliverables, contributing to projects ranging from Level 1 to Level 5 in size and complexity.

· Ensure accuracy, completeness, and technical quality of all engineering deliverables, including drawings, databases, configuration files, and project documentation.

· Ensure compliance with Yokogawa quality standards, project quality plans, and documentation requirements; complete required quality records accurately and on time.

· Perform site visits in support of Annual Lifecycle Agreements and ongoing customer support engagements, particularly within the West Region.

· Provide after-hours and weekend customer support as required to meet project and operational needs.

· Apply working knowledge of AutoCAD and other engineering tools to support system design, documentation, and as-built deliverables.

· Demonstrate a solid and evolving understanding of process control concepts, automation methodologies, and industry best practices.

· Maintain and expand expertise in Yokogawa system architectures through formal training, hands-on project experience, mentoring, and self-directed learning.

· Demonstrate working knowledge of PLCs, system architecture, computer system configuration, hardware design, and industrial networking.

· Stay current with emerging technologies and trends applicable to control systems and industrial automation.

· Prepare and deliver technical documentation, customer presentations, and training materials for both external customers and internal teams.

· Support and, as appropriate, guide junior engineers or new team members through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

· Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills; accurately report time and expenses in accordance with company policies.

· Understand, follow, and actively promote safe work practices in office, plant, and field environments.

· Travel up to 50% to customer and project sites as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· B.S. degree in engineering, physics, math, or equivalent experience

· 5+ years’ experience in the process control system

· 3 years working experience in PLC, DCS, computer networking.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the environment is reasonable.

Physical Demand:

The employee is occasionally required to lift to 50 pounds, able to coordinate with the packing and shipping of hardware components. The vision requirements include depth perception, ability to adjust focus, close vision, and color vision.
