What we are looking for:
In this exciting opportunity you will work as a member of the Surgical Services team within our case costing hospital environment. We are seeking a self-directed, independent critical thinker who is well-organized to provide complex equipment and supply coordination within the surgical program with specific focus in perioperative services. Exercising considerable judgment you will be responsible for ensuring equipment and supplies are available in the Operating Room (OR) and Outpatient Procedure Suites (OPS) and other areas of the program as required. The successful candidate will manage and coordinate a number of equipment related initiatives. You will be a critical thinker, who is self-directed, organized with strong communication and customer service skills. To succeed in this role you must have a full understanding of hospital policies and procedures, be knowledge about surgical supplies, be professional, able to accept and assume responsibility while making appropriate decisions based in accordance with your role.
Areas of responsibilities include:
- Manage stock/non-stock and consignment inventories
- Coordinate equipment that is specific to the patient
- Conduct physical inventory evaluation/counts on a routine basis
- Conduct inventory analysis to ensure the appropriate inventory is being utilized
- Through the case costing process, make recommendations for most effective use of supplies
- Identify and report cost savings opportunities
- Act as the technical expert in collaboration with the Supply Chain & Equipment Coordinator; you will coordinate the RFP process for surgical equipment requirements. This will include assisting with the preparation of the RFP, scheduling the review and analysis with appropriate score cards for all vendors while supporting any onsite testing of equipment involved.
- Assist with various facets of special projects
- Maintain an effective filing system (both hard copy and electronic files)
- Other duties as assigned by a member of the surgical services leadership team
What you bring to the role:
- College/ Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Inventory Management, required
- Five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Relatable experience includes working in an Inventory Leadership or Management capacity in a hospital environment.
- Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or APICS designation is preferred
- Project management diploma/certificate preferred
- Six Sigma/LEAN certificates an asset
- Expertise in supply chain management and familiarity with Broader Public Sector guidelines
- A minimum of 3-5 years of recent hospital experience in an OR setting required
- Proven experience with inventory analysis, control with the ability to make recommendations for cost savings
- Excellent understanding of operating room equipment, supplies and instrumentation
- Demonstrated strong understanding of clinical inventory
- Proven proficiency with MS Office with a focus on Word and Excel
- Proven record in ensuring confidentiality, integrity, professionalism and diplomacy at all times
- A high attention to detail is required
- Experience with Meditech an asset
- Demonstrated excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Superior communication (verbal and written) skills
- Proven well-developed customer-service focus
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Excellent critical thinking skills with the ability to think independently to proactively anticipate the needs of the perioperative service
- Demonstrated good attendance and performance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
- Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday - 8 hrs. 07:00-15:00; however hours will vary based on OR & OPS operational needs
