In this position you will interact with staff, physicians, patients and family preparing for a surgical procedure. The successful candidate will be responsible for both clerical and reception duties.
Aspects of the role will include, but are not limited to:
- Chart preparation, filing and labeling, fax
- Locating additional consult notes and results as needed
- Scheduling additional appointments as necessary
- Booking tests and procedures
- Entering statistics and printing reports
- Ordering supplies, faxing, photocopying and typing as required
- Receiving patients, visitors and hospital personnel
- Answering and directing telephone calls
- Liaising with the Patient Care Manager and nurses regarding flow of patients
- Providing patients and families with information and assisting them with general inquiries
- Assisting in the transport of patients
- Conduct patient reminder phone calls
What you bring to the role:
- Previous medical reception/clerical experience required
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinic/outpatient setting required
- Experience with Meditech, Novari and Community Wide Scheduling required
- Experience with scheduling diagnostic testing and lab testing required
- Completion of a medical terminology course required
- Proficient computer and typing skills
- Critical thinking skills with the ability to investigate scheduling, registration and order issues
- Strong customer service, interpersonal and email, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast pace environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently
- Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
- Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:
Days Monday to Friday 8 hour shifts may fluctuate for the needs of the department from 0700-1500 to 0800-1600
