About the role 

 

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Management Accountant to lead and deliver the department’s budget for NSW public schools. 

 

In this role, you will drive the School Cost Area (SCA) budget and forecasting processes, ensuring accurate financial management aligned with Government priorities and departmental strategy. You will provide strategic insights and expert advice to support executive decision-making, while maintaining strong oversight of financial performance, risks, and opportunities.

About you  

 

You are a strategic and analytical finance professional with strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. 

 

You bring: 

 

  • Proven experience in management accounting, ideally within a large or complex organisation
  • Strong ability to interpret financial data and provide clear, actionable insights
  • Experience influencing and advising senior stakeholders
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure
  • A collaborative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement 

 

Your ability to navigate complexity, think strategically, and drive financial excellence will be key to your success in this role. 

 

Key knowledge and experience  

 

  • Substantial experience setting management accounting governance and controls, and working with stakeholders to operationalise and implement
  • Substantial experience with management accounting and reporting risk identification and providing financial analysis and insights
  • Substantial experience using key financial management systems, in particular, SAP
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people. 

 

Essential requirements of the role

 

  • Degree in accounting or finance discipline and membership of a recognised Australian professional accounting association.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education
