Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Rail Engineering Designer II to join our growing team! We are actively seeking candidates within a commutable distance to any of our Colliers Engineering & Design office locations! 

 

Our rail and transit systems efficiently connect people and freight throughout the country. Our rail engineers possess a broad range of experience from inside the rail industry and bring a clear understanding of the unique nature of railroad projects. We offer a full range of rail services to Class 1, short line, transit agencies, as well as Department of Transportation and other rail clients. Our professionals provide services for rail freight, intercity passenger rail, commuter rail, and industrial installations. Our expertise ranges from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design, construction inspection and operations.


Responsibilities

  • Develop track design drawings using Bentley software products.
  • Perform engineering calculations.
  • Research and apply code provisions to design.
  • Create cost estimates for project alternatives.
  • Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
  • Coordinate drawings from multiple disciplines for specific projects.
  • Create 3D models using Bentley products. This includes the development of alignment plans & profiles, cross sections, and preparing quantities.
  • Research design options and document findings for project engineer/manager.
  • Submit concept designs and work through approval processes.
  • Work with senior engineers to create project designs and drawings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in track design and railroad engineering required.  
  • Experience using OpenRoads or OpenRail. 
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required; PE license preferred. 
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
