Description:

Sincerus Global Solutions is seeking an experienced full-time Senior Mentor who will serve as the embedded, in-country team lead supporting a specialized tactical unit within Kenya's Administrative Police Services (APS) tasked with securing the border with Somalia.

The Senior Mentor will provide hands-on mentorship, operational advising, and program coordination for training aimed to enhance the unit's ability to detect, deter, and neutralize terrorist threats and improve operational readiness. This position directly supports protection of critical infrastructure through capability development in low-light/night-vision operations using Night Vision Devices (NVDs) , Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), and Organic Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).

Key Responsibilities

  • Embedded Mentorship and Operational Advising
    • Serve as the primary in-country mentor to a designated target unit within the host-nation security forces
    • Work closely with USG CT and US Embassy designated representatives regarding strategic and operational guidance provided on counterterrorism and border security operations
    • Conduct regular assessments of the unit's capabilities including equipment availability, and operational and maintenance conditions.
    • As needed, provide recommendations on real-world mission planning and execution, including:
      • Night operations targeting terrorist movement
      • Route clearance and patrol operations
      • Response to IED threats in austere environments
    • Support development of tactics, techniques, and procedures aligned with international best practices
  • Capability Development
    • Lead and oversee integration of the following three capability areas:
      • Night Vision / Low-Light Operations (e. NVDs)
        • Train and mentor personnel on NVD employment and sustainment
        • Integrate night operations into routine mission planning
      • Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
        • Advise on ISR mission planning, drone deployment, and data utilization
      • Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)
        • Mentor unit personnel on IED detection, recognition, and immediate action procedures
  • Training Coordination and Development
    • Develop and implement train-the-trainer programs to certify Kenyan instructors and ensure sustainability
    • Oversee delivery of:
      • Advanced marksmanship (day/night)
      • UAS operations and maintenance
      • EOD and IED defeat training
    • Assessment, Monitoring and Program Implementation
      • Conduct initial and ongoing capability assessments of personnel, equipment, and sustainment systems
      • Support development of equipment management and maintenance systems, as well as training plans tied to measurable outcomes

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in:
    • Counterterrorism operations
    • Border security and/or law enforcement tactical units
  • Demonstrated experience in high-threat or austere environments
  • Prior experience as an advisor, mentor, or team lead on international security assistance programs
  • Proven experience in at least one core capability area:
    • EOD / IED defeat
    • UAS (ISR operations)
    • Night operations / NVD employment (operations and maintenance)
  • Experience coordinating/managing training programs and external trainers
  • Must speak, read, and write in fluent English
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background working with U.S. Department of War, federal law enforcement, or allied security services
  • Experience in East Africa or similar threat/austere environments
