Job Description Deputy Manager – Tool Room Role Summary Responsible for managing tool room operations including mold maintenance, tooling development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement to support production of automotive lighting components. Ensures availability, reliability, and performance of injection molds and tools. Key Responsibilities 1. Tool Room Operations Manage day-to-day tool room activities for injection molds (plastics used in lighting systems). Ensure minimum downtime of molds used in headlamp tail lamp production. Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of molds. 2. Mold Maintenance Repair Handle complex molds (multi-cavity, hot runner, optical lens molds). Ensure proper polishing, fitting, alignment, and cooling system maintenance. Diagnose issues like: Flashing, sink marks, flow lines Lens defects (critical for lighting optics) Lead repair activities with quick turnaround. 3. Tool Development Trial Support Coordinate with tool design and development teams during: New mold trials Tool corrections (T0, T1, T2 stages) Provide feedback on mold improvements and design modifications. 4. Production Support Work closely with injection molding production teams to ensure smooth operations. Troubleshoot tooling-related defects affecting: Optical clarity (important for headlamp lenses) Assembly fitment issues 5. Team Management Lead a team of tool makers, technicians, and maintenance engineers. Allocate work, monitor performance, and ensure training on: Precision tooling Optical surface handling 6. Continuous Improvement Implement Kaizen, TPM, Lean manufacturing practices. Reduce: Mold changeover time (SMED) Tool breakdown frequency Improve tool life and process capability (Cp, Cpk). 7. Vendor Tooling Coordination Coordinate with tool manufacturers for: New tool development Major repairs and modifications Evaluate vendor performance (quality, delivery, cost). 8. Quality Compliance Ensure tools meet automotive quality standards: IATF 16949 ISO standards Maintain documentation: Tool history cards Maintenance logs Calibration records
