
Classroom Paraprofessional
Job Description
Hours: 8:00 am - 3:20 pm
Salary: $17.74
Reports to: Building Administrator
Purpose Statement
The job of Paraprofessional � Classroom is done for the purpose of assisting in the instruction of students under the direction of a certified teacher. This position performs a variety of classroom, clerical, and supervisory duties to support student learning and enhance the instructional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Accompany students to various locations (e.g., hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, recess, field trips, assemblies) to ensure safety and support procedural and instructional needs.
- Assist with reinforcing positive behavior and following discipline procedures as directed, including supporting IEP-related behavior and sensory plans.
- Prepare instructional materials under the direction of the teacher to support timely instruction.
- Attend workshops and in-service trainings as required by the district to maintain compliance and job knowledge.
- Conduct non-instructional classroom duties under supervision to support efficient classroom operations.
- Duplicate non-confidential materials (e.g., instructional handouts) to support instructional delivery.
- Maintain data related to instruction for tracking and reference purposes.
- Monitor students in hallways and general areas to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
- Support classroom instruction under teacher guidance to challenge and engage students.
- Perform general student support duties to promote safety and academic success.
- Work with individual students or small groups using the teacher's lesson plans.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the school.
Job Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Skills: Operate standard office equipment; use relevant software applications; maintain records.
- Knowledge:
- Basic math including fractions, percentages, and ratios
- Child guidance principles and practices
- Instructional methods and materials, especially in Special Education
- Safe classroom practices and correct English usage
- Record keeping and modern office procedures
- Abilities:
- Supervise and support students with empathy and professionalism
- Model appropriate behavior and appearance
- Follow oral and written directions and apply instructional strategies
- Communicate clearly with students and adults
- Maintain confidentiality
- Respond positively to student needs and behaviors
- Understand and support students with learning differences
Responsibility
- Works under direct supervision with established procedures.
- Provides student support and clerical assistance to staff.
- Utilizes some resources from other work areas.
- Has consistent opportunities to positively impact student services and learning environments.
Education & Experience
- Minimum Education: Targeted, job-related education in a related area.
- Preferred Education: Additional relevant coursework or certification.
- Experience: Job-related experience is required.
