Job Description

Description: 
Serve as a critical bridge between home and school, supporting English learners in the academic, linguistic, and social development. This position assists with the assessment, instructional support, communication, and documentation to ensure students receive appropriate services and families remain engaged and informed.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Collaborate with the classroom teachers and academic coaches to collect and monitor academic data on English learners. 
  • Assist teachers in communicating instruction programs by:
    • Clarifying lessons and breaking content into manageable steps.
    • Providing oral translation of instructions. 
    • Implementing accommodations and supports as outlined in each student's language plan. 
  • Provide direct student assistance through in-class tutoring, small-group instruction, and use of language-learning software.
  • Assist with parental communication during enrollment, phone calls, conferences, home visits, and other interactions as directed by the building principal. 
  • Maintain a detailed parent contact log documenting all interactions. 
  • Support family understanding of school procedures, expectations, and resources. 
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions as required. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by classroom teacher or school Principal.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Knowledge of: 
  • Second language acquisition and strategies for supporting English learners. 
  • Effective instructional strategies for language development. 
  • School procedures, confidentiality rules, and cultural awareness practices. 
  • Basic use of educational technology and software for language learning. 
Skills in:
  • Communicating clearly with students, staff, and parents in English and (if applicable) Spanish. 
  • Supporting instruction through translation and clarification. 
  • Building trusting, respectful relationships with culturally and linguistically diverse families. 
Ability to: 
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and instructional coaches. 
  • Work patiently, positively, and respectfully with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities. 
  • Supervise groups of students in both structured and unstructured settings. 
  • Remain calm and use sound judgment in stressful situations. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information. 
  • Adapt to changing student needs, classroom dynamics, and assignments. 
  • Model appropriate behavior and serve as a positive role model for students. 

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed primarily in the classroom environment. 
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching. 
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling (25-50lbs.).
  • Ability to sit on the floor, kneel, or move quickly to support students in classroom and playground activities. 
  • Exposure to typical childhood illnesses and minor injuries in a school environment. 
  • Requires regular attendance, punctuality, and the ability to work flexible assignments as directed. 

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Associates degree or 48-hours of college credit, preferred. 
  • Fluent in Spanish, preferred.
