Job Description

Salary: $18.50/Hour Minimum

Report Times: 6:45am - 2:45pm
Daily Hours: 8 (7.5 Paid)
Work Year: 44 weeks
Supervisor: Principal
Civil Service Title: Office Clerk II (Competitive)
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation with an Associate's degree or successful completion of at least sixty (60) credit hours from a college or university; OR,
(B) Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent office clerical or secretarial experience*; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
*Experience as a Teller, Cashier or Sales Clerk will not be considered appropriate experience for the purposes of these minimum qualifications.
NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: If you are appointed, you will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.
Desired Qualifications:
Strong computer knowledge and experience with Google Docs, Sheets, Slides;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Strong organizational skills;
Ability to use the telephone in a courteous and efficient manner;
Ability to prioritize tasks;
Complete all work with a high degree of quality and efficiency;
Demonstrate ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Position Summary/Responsibilities:
Clerical support for Assistant Principals, including multiple departments and grade level teams;
Supports Unit Office working with 300+ students and their families;
Organizes and manages AP's daily schedule, including creating appointments and meetings with teachers, parents, administrators and/or
students;
Processes discipline letters;
Greets and triages students who have been sent out of class or are in crisis;
Assists with school wide mailings; including all senior student events;
Assists testing Admin with Regents exams including all exam clerical prep;
Maintaining storage area for exams;
Processes tutoring requests and communicates with teachers and tutors;
Orders supplies for the unit office;
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
