Senior Optical Engineer

The Senior Optical Engineer for ngGONG leads the design, analysis, and integration of optical systems for the National Solar Observatory’s Next-Generation Global Observing Network Group. This role provides technical leadership during the project’s critical design phase, ensuring telescope and instrument optics meet scientific, performance, and manufacturability requirements. Responsibilities include optical requirements development, system modeling and analysis, tolerancing and alignment planning, vendor oversight, and support of major design reviews. Based in Boulder, Colorado, this position plays a key role in advancing ground-based solar observations and enabling next-generation solar physics and space weather research.
