Greek Language and Culture Teacher (5th Grade) (SY2026-2027)
Terms of Employment:  Full-time, 10-month
Reports to: Principal

Job Summary: Odyssey Charter School is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and culturally responsive School Teacher to support student learning in a rigorous, standards-based, and student-centered environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about fostering academic excellence, building meaningful relationships, and supporting a diverse student population.

This role requires a collaborative educator who can effectively engage all elementary school learners, implement research-based instructional practices, and contribute to a positive school culture rooted in inquiry, critical thinking, and global awareness.

 

 

Innovative and interdisciplinary, the 5th grade course Greek Culture and Civics will be taught through a hybrid instructional model (Greek-English) designed for non-immersion students. The course will introduce learners to foundational elements of Hellenic civilization, cultural literacy, and civic thought. Topics include Greek mythology, selections from ancient Greek literature and poetry, major historical periods, key geography concepts connected to the Greek world, and civic principles such as democracy, dialogue, logos, citizenship, ethical leadership, sustainability, and critical thinking. The ideal candidate will be a native Greek speaker with a strong background in Greek language, culture, history, humanities, or related educational fields, as well as the ability to engage upper elementary students through interactive, inquiry-based, and culturally responsive instruction.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid, active Delaware Teaching License and Certificate in required content area in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1531.
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exams.
  • Proficient in English Language, both written and spoken.
  • Greek language fluency/native proficiency required.
  • Experience teaching in Elementary Grades in an immersion or foreign language program preferred
  • Relevant teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching students with diverse needs
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • A global citizenship and collaborative mindset
  • Experience working in a multicultural/multilingual environment


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective instruction in Greek language and culture, traditions, history, and related curriculum areas to elementary students in alignment with Odyssey Charter School's mission, vision, and educational program.
  • Plan and implement lessons and instructional activities that meet the individual needs, interests, abilities, and learning styles of students.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, respectful, and conducive to student learning and engagement.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned to curriculum expectations and provide written evidence of preparation upon request by administration.
  • Establish, communicate, and maintain appropriate standards of student behavior consistent with School policies and expectations.
  • Assess student progress and achievement on a regular basis; maintain accurate records of student performance; provide reports as required; and communicate student progress with parents/guardians as appropriate.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide individualized and small-group support, as needed, to address varying student abilities and instructional needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, specialists, and families to support student growth and success in inclusive educational settings.
  • Identify students who may require additional academic, behavioral, or social-emotional support and refer concerns through appropriate School procedures and support systems.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records in accordance with applicable laws, School policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Participate in School activities, cultural events, faculty meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning opportunities as required.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, effective communication, and cooperative working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by administration.
