Job Description

POSITION:                  DISTRICT CHAIRPERSON, LEAD SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER(S) 

LOCATION:                District-Wide position for the 2026-2027 school year 
                                   (Co-Lead positions will be considered)

REPORTS TO:            Manager of Student Services


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be eligible for State of Delaware license and certification in School Social Work
  • School Social Work experience – 3 years or more, preferred
  • Master's Degree and LCSW, preferred
  • Experience developing and delivering various professional development i.e. seminars, interactive work sessions, small group and one on one coaching
  • Ability to work collaboratively with district co-chairperson (if applicable), colleagues, school administrators and central office staff
  • Knowledge of psychology and counseling, federal and state education and human service law
  • Experience working with students with social/emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Experience with Functional Behavior Assessment and individual behavior support plan development
  • Knowledge and experience with families and allied human service professionals
  • Knowledge of strategies to increase student engagement, improve student achievement, and support student development
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and model of professionalism
  • Knowledge of outside agency supports, and general district procedures
  • Supports and embodies the National School Social Work Practice Model
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Proficient electronic and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to address issues as they arise in a timely manner.


SALARY:                                           CEA EPER Salary Scale 
MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT:         July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively participate in the creation and implementation of district-wide goals, department goals, and content area goals
  • Assists administration in improvement of instruction through analysis of assessment data
  • Attend all year-round meetings as scheduled by supervisor
  • Participate in select building level meetings
  • Disseminate area/content/department information to peers through meetings, emails, texts, etc. and ensure continuous communication flow
  • Greet, assist, and provide support to new (or new to content area) educators & support staff
  • Lead department/grade level discussions regarding students and assist in the creation of opportunities to improve or accelerate student achievement
  • Manage the department budget; responsible for order forms, distribution of supplies and materials, and inventory supplies and materials for their department/grade level
  • Meet with administration to discuss district climate, school/district policies and other various content/area related issues
  • Monthly (or more frequently as required) communicate area/department needs and concerns to administration
  • Participate and lead summer planning sessions
  • Plan and deliver professional learning opportunities as directed by administration
  • Plan and/or assist in community outreach
  • Manage online area/department presence (website, social media, etc.)
  • Responsible for informing, monitoring, and/or completing the field trip planning and implementation for district-wide opportunities
  • Schedule, plan/publish agenda, lead or facilitate, and provide minutes for department/PLC meetings
  • Serve as a liaison between the district administration and the schools
  • Summarize and report area/department events and information at building level meetings
  • Support student success through the discussion of truancy, academic failure, climate, etc. for students and provide recommendations
  • Additional responsibilities at the discretion of supervisor and district administration


CONTENT-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Demonstrate commitment to the district's vision and mission by communicating and supporting the academic, social emotional, and behavioral focus.
  • Serve as a representative of District Office/Student Services by participating in meetings and communicating strengths and needs, as requested.
  • Collaborate with the Student Services administrators and other department lead staff to identify annual objectives for the school social worker group.
  • Coordinate and deliver professional development and in-service programs for School Social Workers and others, as necessary. Plan and facilitate regular meetings for Social Workers. Gather feedback and provide timely input on social work Professional Development needs and procedural concerns.
  • Serve as a member of the District Wellness Committee (or other district-level committee).
  • Disseminate information to Social Workers district-wide in multiple formats, and foster collaboration and promote teamwork.
  • Coordinate and revise district-specific written procedures and forms related to school social work practices.
  • Assist administration in School Social Worker recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Work in collaboration with school and district staff to support the Comprehensive Induction Program (CIP) (mentoring) for school social workers. Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members and substitutes.
  • Coordinate the ordering of print and non-print materials as needed for projects for Social Workers.
  • Serve as a resource for all Social Workers who need assistance. Support all social workers with case consultation, district process, and procedural questions.
  • Serve as a representative and liaison with the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE). Attend and participate in DDOE meetings and workshops as appropriate.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned
