Job Description

POSITION:                  DISTRICT CHAIRPERSON(S), COUNSELOR GRADES 6-12

LOCATION:                District-Wide position for the 2026-2027 school year 
                                   (May be filled as a Chair or Co-Chair)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Certification in School Counselor
  • School Counselor experience – 3 years or more, preferred
  • Master's Degree, preferred
  • Experience developing and delivering various professional development i.e. seminars, interactive work sessions, small group and one on one coaching
  • Ability to work collaboratively with district co-chairperson, colleagues, school administrators and central office staff
  • Knowledge of strategies to increase student engagement
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Knowledge of student success plans, outside agency support system, and general district procedures regarding student referrals for counseling support, and transcripts
  • Knowledge of applications in e-school related to counseling services and support
  • Knowledge of district school climate reports
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Proficient electronic and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to address issues as they arise in a timely manner.


SALARY:                                           CEA EPER Salary Scale 
MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT:         July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively participate in the creation and implementation of district-wide goals, department goals, and content area goals
  • Assists administration in improvement of instruction through analysis of assessment data
  • Attend all year-round meetings as scheduled by supervisor
  • Participate in select building level meetings
  • Disseminate area/content/department information to peers through meetings, emails, texts, etc. and ensure continuous communication flow
  • Greet, assist, and provide support to new (or new to content area) educators & support staff
  • Lead department/grade level discussions regarding students and assist in the creation of opportunities to improve or accelerate student achievement
  • Manage the department budget; responsible for order forms, distribution of supplies and materials, and inventory supplies and materials for their department/grade level
  • Meet with administration to discuss district climate, school/district policies and other various content/area related issues
  • Monthly (or more frequently as required) communicate area/department needs and concerns to administration
  • Participate and lead summer planning sessions
  • Plan and deliver professional learning opportunities as directed by administration
  • Plan and/or assist in community outreach
  • Manage online area/department presence (website, social media, etc.)
  • Responsible for informing, monitoring, and/or completing the field trip planning and implementation for district-wide opportunities
  • Schedule, plan/publish agenda, lead or facilitate, and provide minutes for department/PLC meetings
  • Serve as a liaison between the district administration and the schools
  • Summarize and report area/department events and information at building level meetings
  • Support student success through the discussion of truancy, academic failure, climate, etc. for students and provide recommendations
  • Additional responsibilities at the discretion of supervisor and district administration

CONTENT-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate commitment to the district's  vision and mission by communicating and supporting the instructional focus
  • Serve as a model of professionalism
  • Collaborate with District Administrators and district-wide counselors on implementing the district's counseling plan and various District-wide Curricular initiatives (K-12) related to counseling services.
  • Monitor the compliance of counselor quarterly reports and other school data sources for counseling reports.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and teachers to support the implementation in secondary schools of state-mandated Student Success Plans.
  • Be a member of district's school climate committee.
  • Collaborate with Student Services administrators to identify annual objectives for counselors
  • Support all counselors with curriculum and procedural questions regarding student cases/records.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly meetings of counselors
  • Collect and review monthly Student Success Plan reports from schools
  • Gather feedback and provide timely input on counselor Professional Development needs and procedural concerns.
  • Coordinate the ordering of print and non-print materials as needed for projects for counselors.
  • Serve as a resource for all counselors who need assistance
  • Serve as the counselor representative for the district and DOE meetings as requested
  • Coordinator and Lead of the College Fair and the College and Career Readiness initiatives ( College Application Month, College Access Programs and others )
  • Perform other duties, as assigned
