What's the role?
As a Field Service Technician in USVI, you will be responsible for supporting Liberty services in providing elite service to our customers by promptly answering customer inquiries, providing accurate information while fixing and problem solving with new and existing customers. Provide technical and network problem resolution to end-users (customers) by performing a question diagnosis while guiding users through step-by-step solutions.
How can you add value?
- Perform basic to complex installation of & troubleshoot/repair ethernet based internet and FTTH services in a residential and commercial environment (small to medium businesses) from the tap to the connection of CPE; including but not limited to, all necessary wiring of both interior & exterior associated equipment in the forward & return signal path of the customer premise network.
- Survey, install, & maintain Wi-Fi Network products to include routers, gateway servers, Ethernet switches & wireless access points & other components within fixed wireless customers.
- Survey, install, & maintain Fiber Optic Network products to include routers, gateway servers, switches, wireless access points & other components within fiber optic wireless customers.
- Install and maintain fiber optic drop cables, including routing, securing, and termination at the customer premises.
- Install, provision, and support Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) for voice, video, and data services over GPON/EPON networks.
- Perform interior and exterior wiring, including fiber and copper cabling, ensuring proper signal flow across the customer premise network.
- Conduct end-to-end service activation, including ONT setup, Wi-Fi configuration, and customer device connectivity verification.
- Diagnose and resolve FTTH service issues, including low optical levels, intermittent connectivity, no light conditions, and provisioning errors.
- Use test equipment such as optical power meters, light sources, and OTDRs to validate fiber integrity and identify faults.
- Perform connector cleaning, re-termination, and minor fiber repairs as required.
- Verify and maintain acceptable optical signal levels and ensure service performance meets company standards.
- Interact with business customers & their reps, demonstrating an understanding of & regard for the unique priorities of business clients. Work with customer technical support personnel to diagnose & correct service-related issues.
- Respond to equipment failures, troubleshoot & repair equipment while providing the customer with productive communications regarding the repair process.
- Recognize and advance to a supervisor persistent service problems or other observed factors that could impact the ongoing relationship between Liberty & a business customer.
- Educate customers on accurate use of services & equipment, as well as the availability of online help options.
- Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality, security & safety control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as OSHA and FCC & following procedures as outlined in the CPNIQ, TQA, NEC, NESC, other Installation, Technical Operations, Safety Manuals & Employee Handbook).
- Follow security procedures to prevent any unauthorized services.
- Use and demonstrate proficiency with tasks, tools, test equipment & information that will enhance business results.
- Maintain accurate records including time worked, daily logs, gas sheets as required; properly record all required information on data devices and/or work orders.
- Operate communications devices in accordance with company policies IE: cell phone or 2-way radio
- Operate a company vehicle in a safe & responsible manner; Clean, maintain, stock, & secure assigned vehicle & equipment, in accordance with company policies.
- Demonstrate and ensure compliance with the Customer First Philosophy, all Liberty policies and procedures including the Code of Conduct and Liberty safety standards and procedures.
- Other functions that may be assigned.
What do you need?
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma. Associate degree in Electronics, preferred.
1-2 years related technical experience.
Installation & repair of WAN/LAN & wireless router related equipment experience.
Knowledge of fiber optics within installation, cable termination, splicing, cable management, repair, fixed wireless or certificates/Licenses in related job field.
Other qualifications:
- Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, and suppliers, in person, on the phone, & by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, & professional manner.
- Basic understanding of the TCP/IP layers.
- Ability to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers in the installation of cable to the residence or business.
- Basic knowledge in using software tools to support the current operations, knowledge in basic network devices and network appliances.
- Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices and differentiate between different sizes & colors of wires.
- Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting and work with small components and wires to make cable connections.
- Ability to use personal computer & software applications.
- Experience working with complex structure cabling, including Cat 5/6 cabling or fiber optics
- Experience in configuring & installing routers, Internet gateway services, Layer2/3 Ethernet switches & wireless access points in commercial environments.
- Ability to crimp cat5e cables using t568b standard. Ability to install and repair fiber optic cables.
- Knowledge of Island topography and navigation within it.
