Job Description
JOB OBJECTIVE: Perform advanced (senior-level) informational and educational work. Work involves creating, coordinating, and overseeing integrated communications plans for agency programs and initiatives, and can include research, writing, editing, and production of informational programs and materials for release to news and/or social media and for use by the agency, the public, and other agencies. Under the supervision of the Assistant Marketing and Public Relations Director, this position works closely with division staff, directors, and leadership to determine the most effective communication strategies for divisions to ensure goals, standards, and deadlines are met for all clients. Work under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Oversee the planning, coordinating, and execution of communications plans and outreach for preservation programs and initiatives.
2. Write and edit print and electronic materials including, but not limited to: newsletters, brochures, annual reports, legislative publications, travel guides, flyers, invitations, posters, scripts, web writing, and social media.
3. Coordinate content, quality control, and delivery of agency publications and reports.
4. Consult with and advise on planning/execution of public information programs, conferences, seminars, workshops, and public hearings.
5. Consult with division leaders and staff about communication strategies, program goals, and public outreach.
6. Collaborate closely with the Division Director to ensure that both ongoing and upcoming communication projects are appropriately integrated into the MPR Division’s workload.
7. Participate in strategic planning discussions within the MPR division to ensure preservation divisions’ priorities are effectively represented.
8. Proactively identify and implement approved strategies to enhance the division’s long-term approach, continuously seeking opportunities to innovate and strengthen overall communication effectiveness.
9. Implement and monitor approved strategies to achieve preservation divisions’ goals as related to marketing and communications.
10. Work closely with internal and external clients to ensure communications needs are met.
11. Adhere to established work schedule with regular attendance.
12. Follow all THC safety guidelines/procedures and ethics requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS (The application must specifically state how each of the following qualifications are met):
· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing/Advertising or a related field;
· Minimum five years' professional experience in writing, editing and communications project management;
· Proven experience managing major external communications campaigns and strategies for an organization;
· Proven experience leading the development and of a major publications and/or media project;
· Ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure;
· Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record and ability to drive a state vehicle; and
· Required to travel up to 25% of the work period.
PREFER:
· Experience in preservation programs, museums, cultural institutions or non-profit organizations; and/or
· Spanish language experience.

· Ability to research and prepare information, to design communication plans and materials related to the goals and priorities of the agency, to compose content for the Web, to prepare copy and scripts, to design broad communications plans and materials, to communicate effectively, and to assign and/or supervise the work of others;
· Ability to analyze problems, evaluate alternatives and recommend effective solutions;
· Ability to process information in a logical manner and to assess validity;
· Ability to work in a setting requiring self-motivation/cooperative decision-making and to work effectively with diverse groups of people;
· Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines while maintaining extreme attention to detail;
· Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
· Ability to adapt successfully and quickly to change and deliver quality results in a timely manner;
· Ability to plan, organize and work independently, as well as within a team environment;

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION, OR LICENSURE:
Must have or obtain a valid Driver's License and Defensive Driving Course to be able to operate state vehicles.
ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able work extended periods at a computer, and may require working extended hours and some evenings, weekends and overnight, as needed. Involves safely operating a state vehicle and driving for long distances and traveling by airplane.
