
Material Freight Handler (BSA-1, Montgomery, AL)
Job Description
Summary:
The Material Handler is responsible for the first step in the cell manufacturing process by ensuring all materials are supplied to the production line. By using mobile equipment, machine, computers and scanners, the material handler plays an important role in the production of the product.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
(To perform within this position successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.)
- Receiving of incoming shipments and securing product
- PDA scanning of materials for incoming /outgoing receipts
- Placing proper material in correct storage areas
- Moving needed materials to the production line
- Prepare finished goods for shipment by identifying, packing, loading, and securing product
- Maintain material handling equipment by completing pre-trip inspections and making operator repairs or recommendation if applicable
- Assist with physical inventory movement and cycle counting when needed
- Follow ": JIS" and "JIT" procedures and methodology
- Operate forklift, pallet jacks and other machinery to move materials onto and off trucks as well as other mode of transportation
- Contribute to orderly operations of stock and/or material areas for BMA/BSA/HEV
- Document any damage or quality matters of the product/BSA and notify Logistics Supervision
- Adhere to restraint system and dock locking process
- Adhere to all workplace safety regulations
- Adhere to weight restrictions as well stabilizing and securing load properly
- Assist Logistics Specialist with maintain freight documentation such as BOL (Bill of Lading) and packaging list if necessary and/or applicable
- Adhere to 6S Methodology (Sort, set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain and Safety)
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:

Required Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED plus 2 or more years as a Material Handler
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Ability to work well with others and cross-functional teams
- Previous inventory, freight and/or materials experience
- Previous knowledge of operating PDA's, scanners or other warehouse inventory managing devices
- Demonstrate basic math and reading comprehension
- Ability to pass mobile equipment training and demonstrate safe driving practices
- Willingness to drive mobile equipment and pass employer-based equipment training to ensure safety of all team members.
- Easily demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, attention to detail, decision making and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and electronic communication skills
- Experience operating forklift/mobile equipment forklift , tugger and Walkie Stacker
- Basic experience and familiarity with computers and digital equipment including but not limited to Microsoft Office
- Adept at handling multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proficiency with prioritizing and meeting deadlines
- Process improvement mindset
- Knowledge of inventory control
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Experience in automotive manufacturing and/or parts distribution
- Logistics and/or Supply Chain Background
Certificate, License and Registrations: None
Working Conditions:
- 95% in both Climate and Non-Climate controlled areas with the plant and warehouse
- Some domestic travel may be necessary to other warehouses and/or plants
- Lifting up to 40 pounds for box to rack process
