Introduction – the ‘why’

This is an excellent opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within the ELT (English Language Teaching) Content Operations function, playing a central role in delivering high-quality educational products globally. The position offers strong visibility, cross-functional collaboration, and the chance to influence delivery processes, team development, and operational excellence.

This role represents a positive career move for individuals seeking to expand their people leadership and operational management experience in a global publishing environment. You will contribute to the delivery of approximately 1500 print and digital products annually, supporting OUP’s mission to deliver high-quality educational content at scale. 

The role is particularly engaging due to its combination of team leadership, project delivery, stakeholder engagement (UK and global teams), and continuous improvement initiatives including automation and workflow optimization. You will work closely with Content Operations Managers, Delivery Team Managers, and ELT product squads using tools such as ClickUp and various publishing systems. 


Opportunity – the ‘what’

In this role, you will supervise and lead a team of Content Delivery Controllers supporting frontlist and backlist ELT products, ensuring smooth and timely delivery of digital and print assets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and supporting a team of Content Delivery Controllers, ensuring well-being, performance, and effective task execution
  • Allocating work and monitoring progress using ClickUp, ensuring fair workload distribution and timely completion
  • Providing on-site guidance, resolving blockers, and maintaining clear communication with UK-based stakeholders
  • Supporting delivery of product and asset workflows, ensuring quality, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines
  • Overseeing workflows and ensuring efficient use of systems, with escalation to technical teams where required
  • Representing the team in meetings with senior stakeholders, contributing insights, resolving conflicts, and driving improvements
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, appraisals, performance management, and disciplinary processes
  • Managing local operational responsibilities including HR coordination, facilities, onboarding logistics, and team engagement
  • Identifying and fulfilling training needs, building capability through coaching and skills development frameworks
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives, including automation and process optimisation
  • Participating in project kick-offs and explaining delivery workflows to stakeholders

About You

Essential Criteria

  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Experience leading a team and/or coaching and training others
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and monitor team performance

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of cross-format publishing, ELT, or education publishing
  • Experience supporting process improvement or change initiatives
  • Experience working with third-party content creation suppliers and contracts
  • Experience using ticketing systems or workflow management tools (e.g., ClickUp)
  • Knowledge of asset preparation and digital content delivery
  • Experience working with publishing systems and digital production workflows
