Job Description

The Data and Artificial Intelligence Platform (DAP) group is a key component of Visa's Technology organization that provides the enabling technology and processes to handle Visa's data assets and deliver valuable information, products, and services to customers. DAP delivers secure, high-quality and easy-to-use Visa core data assets as a service, together with reliable and scalable data platform as a service, to enable Visa and our partners to rapidly and efficiently innovate data-driven business products and services to lead the digital payment industry. Areas of focus include Business Intelligence and Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data as a Service, and Platform as a Service etc. The portfolio comprises of over 60 data products & platforms for various external clients and internal lines of business. We provide services on behalf of traditional bank customers to millions of cardholders and merchants globally. We are responsible for designing, developing, and implementing next generation data platforms to drive incremental revenue.

Software Development Engineers are expert problem-solvers and builders who design, implement, and improve software applications and systems. In this role, engineers spend approximately 60–75% of their time coding, working hands-on with code, data, and modern tools (including AI-assisted development, cloud services, and automation frameworks) to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality technology solutions that drive business outcomes in the fintech sector. They collaborate with cross-functional teams – product managers, designers, data scientists, QA, operations, and compliance – to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions, all while adhering to best practices, security standards, and regulatory requirements.

All roles require digital fluency, including the ability to work with emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) to support everyday work.
Key Responsibilities:

Hands-on Programming:

• Full-stack development contributes to frontend UI development and contributes to the design of backend databases and queries, API creations and consumptions.
• Works independently with minimal insight to develop software that conforms to Visa’s high standards of security, quality, performance, resiliency, and compliance.
• Translate business requirements by verifying assumptions and escalating potential design issues to appropriate stakeholders.
• Participate in system design and architecture, refining code plans and contributing to design documentation.
• Contribute to project estimation and escalate issues that may cause delays.
• Develop, implement, and maintain code for products, services, or components, applying coding patterns, guidelines, and best practices.
• Apply debugging tools to verify assumptions and proactively flag issues before they occur.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed and address routine pull requests.
• Create test plans and configure testing procedures to identify and resolve defects for multiple features.
• Leverage and build knowledge of software developer tools to create, debug, and maintain code for components.
• Remain current in skills by investing time in training resources to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 3 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least 2 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD 

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of work experience with an B.S/M.S/Ph.D. in an engineering/quantitative field such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, etc.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in developing and/or implementing web-based or mobile applications using reactjs, typescript, javascript, html css, graphql/restful API.
• Minimum of 3 years of software development experience (with a concentration in data centric initiatives), with demonstrated expertise in leveraging standard development best practice methodologies
• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in building large-scale applications using open source technologies. Design and coding skills with Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Hive, and Map Reduce
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on expertise with Java or Scala
• Experience in technologies/software systems or a directly related field.
• Experience in developing and/or implementing web-based or mobile applications using reactjs, typescript, javascript, html css, graphql/restful API and Java.
• Experience in component design and microfrontend architecture.
• Experience in Gen AI tools like claude, copilot, prompts and LLM.
• Experience in system design and architecture for product components.
• Experience in debugging and troubleshooting software issues.
• Experience in code review and applying coding standards.
• Experience in test planning and execution for software features.
• Experience in using software developer tools for code creation and maintenance.
• Experience with highly distributed, scalable, concurrent and low latency systems working with one or more of the following database technologies: DB2, MySQL and NoSQL data warehouses such as HBase
• Experience working in an Agile and Test Driven Development environment.
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Automated Test tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory, Git, Selenium, Chef desirable
• Familiarity or experience with data mining and statistical modeling (e.g., regression modeling, clustering techniques, decision trees, etc.) is preferred
