The starting pay for this position begins at $16.32/hour and is based on the level of qualifications and relevant experience above the minimum requirements.
Flex: A position working an average of 20-29 hours per week (between 1000 - 1559 hours/year.
Level 1 Vineyard Staff will provide seasonal support to the Vineyard team in the care and maintenance of the plants, trellis system, and related equipment. Depending on current demands, duties may include, but are not limited to, pruning; vine planting and training; trellis and canopy management; selection and harvesting grapes; and operating company vehicles and some machinery. Additionally, when Crew 1 employees are working during harvest, they will be expected to help organize and transport harvest workers during that especially demanding time. Crew also provides general assistance and support for leadership, the department, and the company.
Schedule can vary, but is generally 6am-2:30pm, or 7am-3:30pm. Scheduling is weather dependent; applicants should expect to work fewer hours during periods of prolonged cold or rainy periods.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Replanting grapevines, plant care, and maintenance
2. Pruning, hedging, leaf pulling, and trellis building/maintenance
3. Training and transporting harvest staff, if working during harvest 4. Helping prepare vehicles, equipment, and tools during harvest
5. Harvesting grapes, moving lugs, bins, and grapes to and from equipment and fields
6. Help transport harvest workers to and from fields
7. Help Vineyard team with training and organizing harvest workers
8. Clean pruning and harvest equipment and tools
Additional Responsibilities:
1. During pruning, planting, and training seasons, Crew 1 will be expected to act independently at times, and should be able to perform well with very little supervision
2. Will act as "go to" resource for harvest staff and new employees
3. During harvest, will move lugs, empty and full as needed
4. Drive company vehicles
5. Sharpen and maintain pruning and harvest shears, pruning saws and loppers, and trellis tools as needed
6. General assistance and support of Vineyard operations and other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
1. Previous experience working in a vineyard or related field preferred.
2. Relevant education, training and /or certification preferred.
3. Solid knowledge and interest in plant care and maintenance related to grapevines and vineyard operations preferred.
4. Strong planning, organization and time management skills.
5. Good verbal communication skills.
6. Proven commitment to delivering world-class service (internally and externally).
7. Ability to multi-task effectively and work both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
8. Must be able to troubleshoot, take initiative, and proactively exercise good judgment.
9. Must be able to safely and effectively operate and use small tools and equipment.
10. Must be able to operate vehicles and related equipment safely and efficiently.
11. Ability to complete Worker Protection Safety (WPS) training.
Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to lift to 50 pounds regularly.
2. Must be able to kneel, stoop, bend, reach overhead and below.
3. Manual dexterity to operate small tools and equipment.
4. Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time - often up to eight (8) hours a day or more.
5. Ability to work outside in all types of weather with fluctuations in temperature and conditions.
6. Must have a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years of age. Should be able to operate a manual transmission, or be able to learn.
