Research Mineralogist

Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide.  We are currently seeking a Research Mineralogist for our Ahmedabad location. The Research Mineralogist will apply his/her technical understanding of refractory materials and mineralogy to assist in the development and use of new or current refractory products to satisfy customer needs and will also perform mineralogical investigations of refractory related ceramic systems in the support of improved raw materials and product development.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct recommended laboratory research to develop new or improved products and processes to satisfy internal and external customer needs.
  • Initiate, organize, and implement mineralogical studies to investigate and help in the development of refractory ceramics.
  • Provide support in the qualification of current and candidate raw materials.
  • Record the results of all investigative work completely and accurately with a goal of achieving maximum protection of inventions, patents, and liability.
  • Assist in the introduction of newly developed refractory products into large scale plant manufacture, including the production of precast shapes. Establish quality control standards, testing protocols and specifications for manufacturing products.
  • Assist in the introduction of new products into the marketplace. This involves making presentations to sales, customers, and management. Traveling to assist with market introduction and installation is essential.
  • Adhere to company intellectual property and trade secret guidelines.
  • Write technical reports related to projects as needed.
  • Collaborating with other functions of Allied Mineral Products and its affiliates by developing/providing technical knowledge.
  • Keeping current in the state of the art of refractory ceramics by reviewing technical and trade publications, patents and participating/presenting in professional society technical meetings.

Qualifications

  • Requires a minimum of BS degree, but preferably a MS or Ph.D., in Geology (mineralogy), Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of petrographic experience in applying knowledge to mineral evaluation and identification, phase diagrams and high temperature geological mineralogical transformations.
  • At least 5 years related experience in ceramic product development.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Previous supervisory experience with solid interpersonal skills required.
  • A practical approach to problem solving is required.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office applications.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism.
