Job Description
SAFETY AND HEALTH:
- Ensure that all processes and equipment that are under the responsibility of this position are properly maintained and kept in a safe working condition.
- Ensure that a totally safe working environment exists for all employees. Be able to identify any area where safety improvements are possible. Make sure that any safety improvements are completed.
- When any violation of safety rules, policies and practices are observed, appropriate action will be taken to enforce them. Vigorously enforce respirator and non-smoking policies. Investigate and report, in writing, any unsafe acts or near misses that are known.
- Strive to reduce accidents, personal injuries or potential hazards. Work safely and correctly at all times and set a good example.
- Report all accidents immediately so appropriate documentation and investigation can be done.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Able to evaluate the properties of raw materials and products. Complete all research laboratory work requests as assigned.
- Maintain an orderly file on work performed. This file is to contain all pertinent information regarding all work undertaken.
- Observe and conduct practical evaluation tests as required. These tests include density test, flow tests, exotherms, screen analyses, moisture contents, bond detection, casting set times, workability tests, mold casting, drying, firing of samples, cup testing, etc.
- Complete work assigned in evaluating raw material samples received.
- Assist in the evaluation of all technical problems as requested.
- When requested, write reports on work completed and observations made.
- Assist in the calculating, recording, and maintaining of up-to-date files on all tests and screen analyses performed.
- Under the supervision of the Research engineer, predict formula changes necessary by computations of variations in raw materials.
- Check all labeling and dating of raw materials to ensure they are correct.
- Complete all tests and place the data into the computer system. Collect storage samples and keep them in order.
- Assist in the training of any new Technician, or other employee, as needed.
- Attend meetings and serve on various committees when requested.
- Assist in the development of new test methods and procedures and recommend revisions of existing test procedures and forms.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Perform any other miscellaneous duties as needed or assigned.
- Work safely and correctly at all times. Follow all health and safety rules, and regulations.
- Follow all Company Rules and Regulations.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal laws and Regulations
Qualifications
- Requires a minimum of Diploma with 3 years' experience in relevant field or bachelor's degree in Ceramic Engineering or any other relevant discipline. An alternative would be at least five years' experience in the ceramics industry.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential, particularly Excel graphing and charting.
- Good human relation skills and a practical approach to problem solving are absolutely necessary.
