Senior Engineer (Generation/Business Strategy)

We are looking for an energetic and competent professional to join our Business Strategy Department, Generation Business Group (GBG). Successful candidate will be assigned to work for the Operation & Maintenance Strategy Branch to formulate, communicate and oversee implementation of optimized operation and fuel strategies for the management of generation assets to meet the GBG’s business objectives. Career development opportunity will also be given to the appointee who may be required to rotate to work for different functional units of the Department.
Followings are the key responsibilities and requirements of the appointee:
Key Responsibilities:
- To develop and review operation and fuel strategies and standards, using various optimization model and analytical tools, to ensure the generation assets to be able to achieve its expected reliability and performance standards to support the GBG’s business goals.
- To analyse and evaluate various operation regimes and fuel utilization strategies for GBG assets; and to support formulating generation utilization and fuel consumption plans for future generation assets across the Company.
- To manage, maintain and develop the generation simulation model/program to support various GBG business goals as well as provide expertise services to other parties across the Company.
- To develop and adjust fuel consumption plan and provide projection of emission with close monitoring on actual performance in order to ensure generation is according to statutory requirement on emission
- To develop outage plan for GBG assets with coordination of relevant stakeholders to ensure suitable outage windows to maintain generation units with consideration of power system requirement, statutory requirement and OEMs’ recommendations
Requirements:
- A recognized university degree in Engineering or related disciplines, plus at least 5 years working experience in operation, maintenance or engineering (Candidate with less experience may be considered for the post of Engineer);
- Ability to apply strategic thinking and to analyze internal and external factors, evaluate alternatives and determine optimum solutions for the current GBG asset
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills;
- Good numerical & modelling skills and ability to conceptualize, design and carry out strategic analysis and effectively communicate recommendations to stakeholders;
- Active team player with good time and stress management;
- Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese;
- Work experience in, or a good understanding of, the generation business or power industry is an advantage;
- Possession of a corporate membership of HKIE or other recognized engineering professional bodies is an advantage.
