Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The General Manager will lead efforts to expand our presence in the U.S. defense market, enabling composite products across U.S. Department of War (DOW), NASA, industry and research centers. As a U.S.-based defense company with the strength of a global parent organization, we are seeking a seasoned leader with deep expertise in managing aerospace and defense product development, prototyping and production. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience with DOW, NASA and commercial customer market segments, who have a strong reputation in leading organizational change to reset, enhance and grow business units and/or companies. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evolve and build a high-performing team that fosters a positive work culture focused on safety and providing high-quality, on-time product.
  • Drive a culture of operational excellence that ensures smooth day-to-day operations that is relentless in finding opportunities to innovate for improved product capability and efficiency.
  • Assess, develop and implement long-term strategies to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Own and oversee organizational financial management including financial planning, budgeting and organizational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations for DoW and NASA funded programs
  • Support strategic capture and proposal efforts for the delivery of affordable, rapid, disruptive systems to DOW and NASA.
  • Represent the company at relevant technical conferences, industry events, and customer meetings to promote capabilities and expand industry presence.
  • Provide regular briefings to senior leadership on portfolio status and program / facility risks associated with proposals and on-going programs.
  • Drive the maturing of the product lifecycle (from requirements to definition to product support and deployment), with a focus on agile risk management within the company’s processes and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in U.S. aerospace and defense products leadership role within space, energy or defense marketplaces. 
  • In depth understanding of the U.S. government acquisition and contracting processes, including FAR/DFARS, IDIQs, OTAs, and SBIRs.
  • Strong, active network across the space and defense industry; ability to access decision-makers and influence requirements early in the acquisition lifecycle.
  • Prior military or civilian DOW service strongly preferred; experience working with or within DOW R&D or acquisition communities is a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain a SECRET level Security Clearance

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related fields.
  • Advanced Degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent)

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

  • Expertise in the U.S. defense acquisition system and ability to navigate complex program requirements.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of competitive dynamics in the defense sector.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to brief senior leaders across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technically conversant in composite sand able to articulate company capabilities to a range of audiences.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Ability to travel domestically (10%) and occasionally international (5%) required.
