As Principal, Group Underwriting Licensing, you will play a critical role in protecting the organisation’s insurance risk appetite by overseeing the Business Divisional Licensing (BDL) framework across trading divisions. You will lead the end‑to‑end licensing lifecycle, including annual renewals, exemptions, referrals and ongoing maintenance throughout the year. As a subject matter expert, you will provide expert risk assessment, governance oversight and pragmatic guidance to senior stakeholders, ensuring underwriting activity remains appropriately licensed, compliant and aligned to strategic risk appetite.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Gadigal Country (Darling Park 2, Sydney) or Naarm (Melbourne).
What You'll Do
- Lead and manage the Business Divisional Licensing (BDL) process in line with approved procedures
- Act as the subject matter expert on BDL requirements and underwriting authorities
- Assess, manage and recommend BDL exemptions, including referral to the GCUO where required
- Review, maintain and enhance the BDL Procedure and supporting governance frameworks
- Monitor, assess and provide feedback on licensing breaches aligned to divisional risk appetite
- Track regulatory and licensing changes to ensure ongoing compliance
- Support broader Corporate Insurance and Underwriting Risk activities during peak periods
What You'll Bring
- Proven experience in General Insurance with strong commercial lines exposure
- Deep underwriting ; long-tail experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of insurance regulation, licensing and risk governance
- Demonstrated commercial acumen with sound risk assessment capability
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement, influencing and relationship‑building skills
- Strategic thinker with strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities
- Highly developed written communication and report‑writing skills
