Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Set-up, adjust and document process parameters, inspect, troubleshoot, perform minor repairs, changeover, schedule and operate as required all plastic injection molding presses and ancillary equipment within assigned area. Maintain plastic injection molding presses, ancillary equipment, and plastic injection molds in a manner to ensure safe and reliable operation. Provide guidance and support to team members related to plastic injection molding presses, ancillary equipment, and plastic injection molds in order to facilitate the achievement of scheduled production volume within acceptable safety, quality and scrap levels. May perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Reads/interprets various forms of information (electronic or paper) to determine production requirements.

Transports proper production/maintenance supplies, which may include tooling, from/to storage location to/from production area by hand using floor jack, cart, overhead crane, etc. Visually inspects equipment, supplies, and tooling and performs all required safety checks on equipment. If any defects are found, ensures they are corrected before being used in production.

Sets-up, adjusts and documents process parameters, maintains, troubleshoots, cleans and lubricates molds, and performs minor repairs to equipment in assigned area to produce quality parts at acceptable rates. Operates various types of equipment related to maintenance functions, i.e. powered hand tools, grinders, drill press, cutoff saws, etc. May perform basic electrical maintenance, i.e. use VOM meter, check voltage, replace fuses, reset motor overloads, etc.

Performs proper start-up and shut-down procedures. Observes plastic injection molding operation and makes any necessary adjustments (temperature, pressure, volume, etc.) to ensure conformance to order specifications. May have primary responsibility for the operation of assigned equipment.

Inspects product dimensions, reads and interprets mechanical drawings, hydraulic drawings, equipment manuals, manufacturer's specifications and basic electrical schematics. Performs quality checks at start-up and during operation, using calipers, micrometers, fixed gauges, etc., and records results.

Supplies/prepares materials for storing products (boxes, skids, etc.) and removes finished product or returnable materials from production area, when applicable.

Establishes requirements for spare production supplies and storage, (i.e. tooling, machine parts, etc.) and maintains in proper condition to assure availability.

Responsible for documentation and interpretation of records and reports by entering data into computer system or completing paperwork to record activities and maintain historical parameter settings and maintenance records. Interprets/completes necessary paperwork, i.e. scrap, transfer, production and accept tickets, daily log, etc.

Organizes changeovers to ensure safety and a minimum amount of downtime. Works with team members to ensure changeovers are completed properly and tooling and equipment are maintained in good working condition.

Utilizes PM, TPM and predictive techniques and equipment to maintain equipment and tooling in good working condition. Schedules and performs machine teardown to make repairs and modifications. Schedules and assists with mold cleaning and necessary repairs.

Confers with equipment manufacturers and materials suppliers concerning problems and solutions.

Monitors work in progress and makes or suggests improvements. Keeps supervisor and/or Team Leader informed of any problems associated with production, and takes action to provide support for resolution of problems and continuous improvement. Promotes teamwork, and may train team members in job operations, paperwork, etc.

Perform general housekeeping tasks and keeps work area clean, organized and free of scrap, debris, etc.

Follows all safety procedures and safe work practices.

Assist on production lines as needed or relatable tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor/managers

Communication:
Basic communication skills to receive and convey information concerning problems encountered while performing job duties.

Learning/Reading/Mathematical Comprehension:
Perform basic math functions such as addition and subtraction using whole numbers and decimals.
Read and write to access information on the computer, complete required paperwork, and interpret documents.
Learn and comprehend standard operating procedures and basic production techniques
Independent judgment to troubleshoot, audit and changeover various types of equipment.
Visual Requirements:
Distinguish between various items for proper length, width, shape, color and other characteristics.
Read various digital and dial measuring instruments.
Motor Skills:
Hand/eye coordination to setup and changeover equipment using hand tools and operate various gauges and measuring devices.
Stand, squat, kneel and bend for long periods of time regularly. Move between various work stations frequently.
Push/pull and reach with hands and arms frequently. Flexibility to safely position body in unique positions to setup equipment.
Frequently lift/push/pull up to 30 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. frequently.
Environment:
Work in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, possible temperature extremes, dirt, solvents, dust, etc.
Special Skills:
Understanding of plastic materials (engineering grade resins), hot-runner type plastic injection molds and molding machines, as well as processing requirements.
Solid industrial mechanical, electrical and hydraulic knowledge, along with strong troubleshooting skills.
Interpret basic blueprints.
Safely operate powered industrial equipment as required by Powered Industrial Equipment Program to acquire and maintain license, when required.
Dependability:
Maintain satisfactory record of attendance and conduct. Work any shift and overtime as required.
