Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide objective, standardized evaluation of CNA candidates' clinical skills as part of the competency testing required for placement on the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry by a Registered Nurse. The PRN Skills Proctor ensures testing is conducted in compliance with University of Iowa guidelines and D.I.A.L. site requirements, supporting the integrity and quality of the CNA certification process.
Job Duties:
- Maintain current knowledge of CNA skills and evaluation criteria as outlined by the State of Iowa and the University of Iowa CNA testing program. Ensure all aspects of the testing process remain confidential and secure, in compliance with University and D.I.A.L. policies. Collaborate with instructors and program coordinators to ensure consistency in evaluation standards.
- Prepare lab space and equipment before and after testing sessions. Communicate results to candidates in a professional manner following test completion, as permitted by testing protocols. Accurately complete and submit all required testing documentation and evaluation forms in a timely manner to the appropriate authority. Report incidents, concerns, or student performance issues to the Program Coordinator.
Education and Experience: Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with licensure as a registered nurse in Iowa or a compact state or the ability to obtain one. Experience working in long term care preferred.
Certifications and Licenses: Active RN license
Abilities:
- Must possess excellent clinical nursing skills and demonstrate sound clinical judgment in alignment with state standards and University of Iowa CNA testing protocols.
- Knowledge of CNA core competencies and clinical skills as required by the State of Iowa for certification.
- Willingness and ability to stay current with changes in testing standards, technology, and adult learning strategies through continuing education and periodic updates.
- Strong understanding of the CNA testing process, including proctor responsibilities, standardization, and the importance of fairness and integrity in candidate evaluation.
- Ability to objectively evaluate CNA candidates without bias, coaching, or personal input, while ensuring that all testing procedures are followed with consistency and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in managing testing documentation, score tracking, and compliance with testing procedures.
- Must possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills to clearly convey expectations, instructions, and post-test results to candidates.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, accept responsibility with minimal supervision, and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and neutrality in testing environments.
- Utilize paper and pencil for documentation of candidate performance and scoring during CNA skills testing.
- Comfortable using or learning basic technology platforms and equipment associated with skills testing, such as tablets, testing software, or video monitoring tools.
- May be required to use basic office equipment such as a copier, scanner, or secure storage systems as part of the testing process.
