  • Base Salary, level A $105,314 - $116,679 p.a + 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Metabolic Disease and Cell Signalling to carry out independent research, keeping with the aims of the laboratory and the Charles Perkins Centre (CPC).

The successful candidate will contribute to projects focused on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying metabolic disease, with a particular emphasis on protein trafficking, signalling pathways, membrane transport, proteomics, and systems-level regulation of metabolism.

The role will involve the integration of biochemical, molecular, cellular, and in vivo approaches to investigate disease mechanisms and identify novel therapeutic targets.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • participate in and drive laboratory research programs focused on metabolism and cell signalling

  • carry out independent research aligned with the strategic aims of the laboratory and the CPC

  • coordinate and manage multiple research projects to ensure timely completion of milestones and publications

  • develop, optimise, and apply advanced methodologies in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, proteomics, and cell biology

  • perform mechanistic studies in mammalian cell systems and mouse models

  • design and implement CRISPR/Cas9-based genetic manipulation approaches in cells and animal models

  • conduct biochemical and enzymatic assays to investigate protein function, signalling pathways, and metabolic regulation

  • undertake proteomic and mass spectrometry-based analyses of proteins and signalling networks

  • contribute to screening approaches, including functional and biochemical screening strategies

  • supervise honours, PhD, and postgraduate students and provide mentorship in experimental design and data analysis

  • foster collaborations within the laboratory, CPC, and broader national and international research community

  • present research findings at national and international scientific meetings and publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journal

  • contribute to grant applications and help secure national and international competitive funding

  • disseminate technical expertise and train other laboratory members in specialised methodologies.

About you

  • a PhD (or near completion) in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, metabolism, or related discipline

  • strong expertise in protein biochemistry and molecular mechanisms of cell signalling

  • experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular cloning techniques

  • expertise in CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome engineering

  • experience with proteomics and mass spectrometry-based approaches

  • experience performing enzyme assays and mechanistic biochemical studies

  • expertise in molecular biology techniques including plasmid design, mutagenesis, and gene expression analysis

  • experience working with mouse models and small animal experimentation would be an advantage.

  • experience in functional screening approaches and/or assay development

  • expertise in fluorescence microscopy and imaging approaches

  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience analysing complex biological datasets

  • the ability and willingness to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary research teams

  • excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • a strong publication track record relative to career stage

  • experience with quantitative proteomics and/or phosphoproteomics would be an advantage.
