Base Salary $97,446 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
As the LAS Veterinary Technician, you will be primarily responsible for delivering routine animal husbandry and veterinary technical services for large animals at the University’s Hybrid Theatre facility, working under the direction of the LAS Clinical Veterinarian and the LAS Veterinary Technician team.
You will contribute to the administrative responsibilities of the LAS large animal team, ensure the health and wellbeing of animals at the Hybrid Theatre facility, and maintain accurate records to support high-quality research outcomes.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
work within a dynamic team, reporting to the Laboratory Animal Services (LAS) Clinical Veterinarian
deliver routine animal care and husbandry, including feeding, cleaning, environmental monitoring, enrichment, and record keeping
assist with veterinary and technical services such as animal induction, procedure preparation, anaesthesia, perioperative care, and humane euthanasia
monitor animal health, take remedial action, and request veterinary checks when required
provide administrative and operational support, including ordering supplies, liaising with researchers, maintaining equipment and infrastructure, and coordinating facility access
supervise and train staff, contribute to procedural development, uphold animal welfare standards, and ensure compliance with legislation and AEC requirements.
About you
an equivalent combination of training and experience in veterinary care of animals
an early career Veterinarian or experienced Veterinary Nurse
degree qualifications/ Certificate IV in Veterinary Science/ Vet Nursing/Specialist Technicians
understanding of and commitment to animal welfare in a research environment, with the ability to maintain positive relationships with team members and research staff
ability to identify and respond to issues with equipment, facilities, and services essential to animal house operations
willingness to work weekends/holidays and provide advice outside business hours
strong time management skills, ability to follow written procedures, and proficiency with software such as email, Excel, and Word
experience in delivering veterinary technical services for large animals, including blood collection, cannulation, intubation, anaesthesia, perioperative care, and analgesia.
