Licensed Counselor & Instructor
The Opportunity
The Licensed Counselor & Instructor plays a critical role in delivering the UHP experience by supporting the emotional development, psychological safety, and performance readiness of our students.
This is a hybrid role that blends student support, group facilitation, and instructional leadership. It is not a traditional therapy role—instead, it focuses on creating a psychologically safe learning environment, providing brief supportive interventions, and equipping students with tools for emotional regulation, resilience, and growth.
You will work directly with student cohorts—primarily veterans in transition—while collaborating with instructors, coaches, and leadership to ensure a structured, high-performance learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Psychological Safety
Provide brief one-on-one check-ins and emotional support within the learning environment
Help students regulate stress, navigate challenges, and stay engaged in the program
Assess emotional intensity and respond appropriately within scope (non-clinical setting)
Identify when external care is needed and coordinate referrals
Support conflict resolution and group dynamics
Participate in daily team syncs, student reviews, and After Action Reviews (AARs)
Instruction & Facilitation
Teach or co-teach modules on:
Emotional regulation
Stress management
Communication and empathy
Values-based decision-making
Mental performance foundations
Lead experiential, hands-on learning sessions (not lecture-based)
Model professionalism, presence, and psychological safety in the classroom
Contribute to curriculum development and refinement
Faculty & Staff Collaboration
Align daily with instructors and staff on student needs and progress
Support faculty in maintaining a structured and psychologically safe environment
Contribute to post-module debriefs and continuous program improvement
Program Integration & Culture
Develop tools and resources that support emotional development
Contribute across UHP programs (IHC, CPT, CNC, leadership tracks)
Support community-building and campus culture initiatives
Participate in AARs to improve program delivery and outcomes
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
Licensed mental health professional (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist, PMHNP, or equivalent)
3–5+ years post-licensure experience (ideally with veterans or high-stress populations)
Experience teaching, facilitating, or working with adult learners
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong foundation in trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches (ACT, MI, mindfulness, NVC, CFT, IFS, etc.)
Ability to operate within clear boundaries between coaching, education, and clinical care
High emotional intelligence with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable navigating group dynamics and high-intensity environments
Ability to build trust quickly with diverse populations
Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with military, veteran, or tactical populations
Familiarity with reintegration challenges, sleep, or substance-use considerations
Background in performance psychology, coaching, or group facilitation
National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), or willingness to obtain
