What’s in it for you:
Plans, directs, and implements organization environmental, health and safety policies and procedures to ensure safe and full compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Will be the Puerto Rico representative to Corporate of EHS matters.
Where is the work: Arecibo Facility, Puerto Rico.
What you will do:
- In charge off all EHS activities at plant level to ensure compliance will company policies and procedures as well as local and federal laws and regulations (OSHA, EPA, EQB, PRASA, Solid Waste Authority. Etc.)
- Supervise departmental employees and assigned contractors.
- Maintain an open communication with Plant Manager in all concerns and instructions given by Corporate on EHS area in order to comply with such, and will support those initiatives.
- Plans and implements environmental policies and procedures.
- Plans, implements and train managers and employees in EHS practices.
- Serves as plant representative in a variety of audit processes including OSHA, PROSHA, EPA, EQB, PRASA, and Fire Department, as well as corporate audits.
- Uses lean processes to analyze all EHS accidents in the facility.
- Ensure all required EHS permits are in place and updated as required.
- Compiles and submits all environmental reports required by regulatory agencies such as EPA, EQB, PRASA, among others.
- Evaluates water chemical analysis data in primary and supportive plant systems to determine compliance with regulations.
- Confers with departmental supervisors, manufacturing representatives, and regulatory agency staff to discuss problems, to develop tests to detect hazardous leaks, and to design plans to monitor equipment.
- Assesses the environmental risk of activities and advises management on environmental impact.
- Develops and implements air monitoring and industrial hygiene programs to determine compliance with federal and state regulations. As necessary, implements actions to control fugitive emissions from the facility.
- Performs hazardous waste site investigations, develops and recommended action for management, which complies with regulations.
- Interprets data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and advises management accordingly.
- Manage all EHS capital projects and other initiatives, as required.
- Represents the organization in community or industry environmental groups and programs.
- Maintains environmental files and records in accordance to government requirements.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
- Maintain the work area clean and organized.
- Support lean initiatives (5s, RIE’s, SQDIP, MDI, 9 step).
- Comply with company policies and procedures, including EHS and ISO requirements.
- Provide regulatory and technical oversight for hazardous waste operations and all resources to implement the Hazardous Waste Program. Provide resources to coordinate emergency response to chemical spills, releases, fire and other emergencies. Responsible for agencies notification and reporting. Maintain and prepare all reports required by RCRA as biennial report, etc. Asses the areas and provide assistance when new hazardous wastes is generated.
- Organize the emergency brigades for site evaluation.
- Active role and engagement in Gemba walks to address, maintain contact with production and warehouse operations.
- Frequent involvement on production and operation meetings to support the areas to reduce safety risk.
- Comply with all administrative and company requirements such as development plans, timely annual goal settings, proper setting-reviews, employee’s goals, timely and professional feedback to the team using the tools provided by the company.
- PMP TMS Coordination with other members of the organization to meet goal and projects related to environmental metrics such as water reduction.
What you will bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Technology or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in EHS management.
Computer knowledge (MS Office).
Knowledge in safety, health and environmental laws and regulations, such as OSHA, EPA, EQB, etc.
Certification as PR Professional Engineer (PE), preferred.
Certifications such as REM (Registered Environmental Manager) and CEA (Certified Environmental Auditor), preferred.
Strong background in team leadership and people management
Negotiation and presentation skills.
Customer service oriented.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish
