OH&S Coordinator
H-E Parts International Crushing Solutions Pty Ltd (HEPICS) is a major supplier of crushing and equipment, spare parts and wear products, remanufactured components, and consumables to the global mining, quarrying and heavy construction industries throughout Australia, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. A subsidiary of the H-E Parts International Group (HEPI) and part of Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. Ltd, we have branches in WA, QLD, and NSW.
The OH&S Coordinator role will be to drive and promote a positive safety culture and to provide a safe working environment for employees, contractors, and visitors for HEPICS and our H-E Parts Engineering workshop. You will provide advice and technical support for all health and safety matter across the business. The position will be reporting through to our Safety Manager and is a full-time role based at our head office in Naval Base.
Key Responsibilities:
- In conjunction with the Safety Manager and other major stakeholders, maintain and update the Safety Management Plan.
- Maintain, update and implement safety policies and procedures to reflect HEPI Group Policy, current legislation and best practice.
- In conjunction with the Operational Supervisors, implement JSA’s and SOPs.
- Produce and distribute safety statistics on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Develop and maintain accurate safety records, including safety statistics, incident reporting etc. and provide input to the HEPI Monthly Management Report outlining key issues, initiatives and monthly statistics.
- Conduct safety inductions for all new employees and contractors.
- Regularly review the site safety induction and update to reflect improvements and changes to our safety procedures.
- Conduct regular safety audits and area inspections in relation to safety standards and procedures.
- Conduct regular toolbox sessions and incorporate safety training and education sessions.
- Travel to HEPICS eastern states branches to roll out HEPI initiatives and conduct regular audits.
- Contribute to and assist in the preparation of all HEPICS and HEPE tenders.
- Manage and coordinate all investigations following safety incidents.
- Identify training needs following safety incidents and make recommendations.
- Provide administrative and direct support for workers’ compensation, injury management and return to work programs.
- Develop and maintain HEPICS and HEPE fire evacuation procedure and conduct annual fire drills.
- Ensure the first aid kits remain stocked at all times.
- Manage HEPICS security system and liaise with Smart Security regarding maintenance and call outs.
- In Conjunction with the HR Advisor and Operational Managers, ensure accurate records are being maintained in the central database.
- Provide mentoring to Supervisors on VOC and drive the training process at HEPICS and HEPE.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role within the mining industry
- Minimum of Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessing
- Demonstrated understanding and comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes, and standards
- Experience working on mine sites and familiarisation with the OH&S requirements of major customers such as FMG, Roy Hill, Rio Tinto and BHP.
